"John Lee was a career Marine first and a successful businessman after that, but he'll probably best be remembered as a mayor of San Mateo who was driven by his strong moral compass, family and colleagues said.  ...He was 81.

...Mr. Lee served three terms as mayor before retiring in 2010. In his 13 years in office - as mayor and on the City Council - Mr. Lee was known as a stubborn but respectful, policymaker who helped push major city development projects, including a downtown movie theater, a new library and a new police headquarters, colleagues said."   Read Article.
