More California High School students on track for College

Knocking-off college courses before we get there.
Silicon Valley Mercury News/Sharon Noguchi, 2/13/12. "More California Students taking, passing AP tests."

"The proportion of California's public high school graduates who took Advanced Placement classes and exams increased from 23 percent to 35 percent over a decade, according to a report from the College Board, the organization administering the exam. In addition, more than 90,000 members of California's Class of 2011 -- or 23 percent of the class -- scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam during high school.

That's almost double the number from the Class of 2001, in which only 16 percent scored as high. Exam takers are graded on a 1-to-5 scale, with a 5 being the highest possible score, and many colleges require entering students to have scored at least a 3 on exams to earn college credit. However, despite the significant increase in numbers of students taking and passing AP tests, the numbers lagged among low-income, Latino and African-American students.

Participation in AP classes and exams increased in all three of those groups but not at a rate to close the gap with the overall student body.  AP classes are college-level classes offered in high schools. Exams are administered in 34 subjects. To read the "8th Annual AP Report to the Nation" and the California supplement, go to http://apreport.collegeboard.org."

What does this have to do with Pacifica?

You should change the name of the blog from "Fix Pacifica" to "It's all about Meeh"

Waste-of-time Anon (512), where are your articles all about Pacifica? Steve has posted none, so you have submitted none to be posted. Meantime, I'll keep posting articles of interest to all of us, period. And, this is one.

If your IQ is lower than below-average, best not to continue to broadcast the same really dumb message.

I'm interested in news from Monrovia. Could you please provide that refreshing input? Please! Pacifica is in the middle of a financial crisis! Let's focus, just for a little while. Maybe through next week.

Larry Anon (637), again, what is preventing you from 1) posting comments on an appropriate article, or 2) posting your own article (in your own name), or 3) re-posting an article on anything, including the ongoing financial crisis?

News and articles of interest (not just to you) continue to happen. And, what is your focus after several weeks may be stagnation for others. What happens after next week that makes the financial crisis a "game changer"?
