Where they exist http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/mountain-lion.html
The following is a reminder for you hikers, we have mountain lions too.
From Montara Fog PRESS RELEASE 3/12/10 at 7:10 this AM a mountain lion was seen in the vicinity of 50 Roan Place in Woodside California. This is the third time in 10 days that a mountain lion had been seen in the same area. If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with kittens. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation. http://www.montarafog.com/ .
Here are a few tips:
Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.
Keep a close watch on small children.
If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.
Pick up small children.
