Wild Equity Institute - Plater's new group?

Never heard of the Wild Equity Institute until reading an article about Sharp Park in today's SF Examiner. Looks like Brent Plater's new group.

The brand new "Wild Equity Institute of S.F." was created recently under the environmental umbrella of one Stanley "Stan" Kaufman of S.F.(the registered owner of the Wild Equity Institute website domain). Kaufman is a long time environmental activist and likely became acquainted with Plater while advocating for the SF Natural Areas Program (NAP), and in particular, regarding the placement of a proposed water tank at Sharp Park in 2007.

The following link further shows the connection between Plater and Kaufman:
http://www.sfgov.org

I would venture an educated guess that this organization was created, at least in part, to provide Plater political separation from his long time affiliation with the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) and I would suspect that henceforth he will be associating himself with the Wild Equity Institute. The added benefit of this new association is that we can expect Plater to now claim that the RestoreSharpPark.org project is supported by two major environmental organizations, CBD and the Wild Equity Institute. It also potentially distances Plater from the "out-of-towner/Arizona" and dirty tricks connotations of the CBD. You, of course, can now view them as one and the same.

Ooh, someone is a little nervous. Hit a nerve didn't I? Care to tell us who you are?

@Pacifica Truth Police, I read the meeting minutes. Here are some things that are disturbing; Isabel Wade wants to turn golf into a racial issue/trying to make a case that Sharp/Lincoln are for older white men and other colors are excluded.

Stan Kaufman threatening to label supporters of Golf, VP Cheney Supporters.

Jill Lounsbury mentioned that maybe the time at the golf courses should be capped, like some fields need to do for sporting teams.

Tom Weathered did a good job defending the golf courses and white men.

A good point was made in the meeting, that there are so many parks that are not being utilized. I think they are picking these golf courses because they think they are an easy target. They think all white people live and work around the courses and therefore white people will not complain or fight if they are accused of being racists or supporters of VP Cheney.

Are these people really that diabolical? To ruin a community and it's people, all so they can feel that they have a sense of power and control? I never got the idea or sense that they care about the environment at all. The meeting seems like it was all about the Bourgeois and Proletariats. What is this? Communist Wild Equity?

welcome to the wonderful world of Nancy Hall, John Curtis, and Pacificans for Sustainable Development. They are not stewards of the environment at all, they only care about the amount of control they can exert over the community.

Not ONE of them spoke in criticism of this City Council when the 7 million gallon sewer spill and subsequent cover up was exposed. NOT ONE. The Regional Water Quality Control Board report clearly spells out the culpability of city leadership in contributing to this disaster. Where was the outrage from the so-called environmentalists?

Pacifica is one of the worst environmental contaminators of the Bay Area, from the carbon emissions of stalled traffic on Highway 1 to the continually odorous and constantly fined Calera Creek Sewer Plant.

Those of us who have had the courage to speak out on behalf of the environment and public health and welfare have been emasculated by the PSD crowd and their power brokers in office. Any lie, any time, that suits their purposes is deemed a moral imperative. Don't be fooled, Pacifica.

Kathleen Rogan said...

I guess you just won your argument, Jeffrey, that the city council is in psd's pocket? right? So, then the public needs to be aware of the hypocrisy and they lose all credability. What if the city council was; todd, simon, wagner, larroche...do you think psd would of been outraged over the sewer spill?

Frank said...

All valid points Krazy Kathleen, except for the flying saucer crap. The rest is 100% accurate. Your presentation is as obnoxious as you are, but there is more than a grain of truth to it all. History will vindicate Kathleen. It will not be so kind to you. Go back to sleep you moron!

Jeffrey W Simons said...

Kathleen,

Thanks for the vote of confidence! It bears repeating that the RWQCB report cites 2 mitigating factors that contributed to the sewer spill: The SBR tank being off line, and the lack of addressing the I&I from the faulty sewer pipes under the city's responsibility.

As for the SBR tank . . . the plant capacity is about 20MGD (million gallons per day) and normal flowrate is about 7MGD. During the heaviest rainfall in January '08, the flowrate was about 24MGD for approximately 8 hours. With the SBR tank out of commission, this put the plant capacity at about 1/5 below capacity, or 16 MGD. The issue is that SBR tank wasn't scheduled to be fixed until MARCH of 2009. SCHEDULED. Which means the plant manager and City Council knew there was a potential for a heavy storm to overrun the plant. And they did nothing to accelerate the scheduled maintenance.

As for the I&I the RWQCB report states the city should have been spending about $1.6 million per year to upgrade piping under its responsibility. The city instead spent about $133,000 per year. Oh yeah, your sewer rates doubled in that time, and the city refinanced sewer bonds to add another $14 million in interest so they could continue deferring payment on the principal for the revolving debt, and shovel $700,000 per year into the general Fund.

It was a clear cut case of willful neglect. I doubt it would have happened with a more fiscally minded City Council.

Jeffrey W Simons said...

so again, don't be fooled by claims that Plater, Butler, Davidson, et al care a whit about the frogs or snakes or the environment. This is all about opposing growth so they can enjoy the city as they envision it at the expense of the homeowners and taxpayers, and the environment.

Correct Jeffrey. And where is the outrage from these faux enviros when it comes to fireworks in Pacifica? You all remember these fine little incendiary toys that disfigure children, poison the environment (both land and water) and cause untold property damage. And, of couurse, they have the added benefit of torturing wildlife (including endangered species), not to mention the 10,000 or so dogs that live in Pacifica. What's really great is that they start a month or two before the 4th of July and go on for at least a month or two afterwards.

Why is the silence deafening from the enviros on this one? Could it be becuase various school programs, etc. benefit financially from the sale of these fireworks? Funny how the green environment somehow seems to take a back seat to greenbacks with these phonies.

Gee Frank, guess you missed the part when Kathleen said she is trying to learn about city issues and politics, similar to so many other people in this city. And, you come-in from somewhere like a big dumb-headed bully with nothing to offer except to beat-her-up.

Who's the real moron Frank? And, if you're using an assumed name to do this, isn't that also rather cowardly?

Frank said...

Kathy Meeh:

You are the moron! Go back and reread. I was attacking Krazy Kathleen not Kathleen Rogan. Kathleen Rogan rules! Krazy Kathleen, Bell, AnonyMouse, Sinai, and in a twisted way, even you, Kathy are the real bullies and cowards. Your liberal blinders are keeping all of you from seeing common ground you have with potential conservative allies - especially in local issues. But keep it up... Obama will love you, your fellow Pacifica Democrats will continue the kumbaya crap and you will continue to lose in Pacifica elections. Congratulations to all of you! My only question is why are you even bothering with this blog?

There are a few people on this blog that need to chill out and it's not Kathleen or Frank...If you see yourself in that, just take a moment to read what has been written without jumping to conclusions that sometimes don't fit.

Jeffrey W Simons said...

Let's all take a deep breath and relax, shall we?

Kathy Meeh said...

Okay Frank, I accept "moron", way too subtle for me, some of that dialog actually did come from Kathleen prior.

However, I was defending Kathleen and other people who are just learning about city issues, and desire a better city government (trustworthy, substantial economy, responsible environmentalism).

Pacifica politics? Don't we just have three political parties: 1) nothing for Pacifica, 2) something for Pacifica and 3) I refuse to participate or try to improve. These local political parties are outside national politics, but it seem like some of us have to work through that.

If this is the Frank I know, last I recall your local party is #2. Unless Riptide alone works for you, this blog and information source is needed.

Kathleen Rogan said...

Peace

Steve Sinai said...

If Frank's local party is Republican, then it's #3. Democrats and Decline-to-States both outnumber Republicans in Pacifica.

While we can use all the support we can get, I don't think appealing to conservatives by bashing liberals and moderates is a winning approach.

Jeffrey W Simons said...

I don't think anyone is bashing moderates, or even true "liberals". We will need a lot of support in this next election, but Cal Hinton certainly had enough support in this community to keep getting re-elected until last year (and even then it was close). We need to appeal to a broad base of people, but there is not doubt the "experiment" of the last 8 years has been a total failure and hopefully we can educate enough voters to make the change Pacifica needs in 2010.

Kathleen Rogan said...

The state has no money. Economies are looking more dire. It is predicted that all local governments money is going to disappear. I just really don't think that a frog and snake pond is gonna fly. It is the most costly option. I don't want to be an alarmist. But, peeps, it don't look good for our country. Stock up on food and supplies.

Steve Sinai said...

Silly me. I didn't realize the word "libtard" was meant to be a complement.

Obama got over 73% of the vote last year in San Mateo County, and I recall seeing numbers that said he got about 80% of the vote in Pacifica. So I don't know that it's a good idea to insult someone that lots of people around here, including moderates, support.

As I never tire of saying, Cal would have stayed on the council if not for one particular individual who decided to scratch his own itch, and whose campaign strategy was to hurl insults at Pacificans. He both finished in last place, and drained enough votes away from Cal so that DeJarnatt was able to stay on council.

Jeffrey W Simons said...

yeah Steve, I voted for Obama.

Kathy Meeh said...

As I recall the number of Republicans in Pacifica is something like 30%. The advantage Measure D received may have been Spring ballot, absentee and conservative voters.

I saw this statistic on one of those city statistics google look-ups some time back, then just checked www.shapethefuture.org for a quick look. Election 6/2006 Gubernatorial Primary Pacifica 3,972 Republican, 11,804 Democrat = 30%. Call it 25-30%, that a lot of votes.

7 year "Nothing for Pacifica" city council track record has really cooked this city, with no one to blame but their own lame anti-economic policies and actions. Republicans, moderate Democrats, and others who can count and observe should be able to figure it out.

Steve Sinai said...

According to the Secretary of State, as of March 20, 2009, there were 22602 registered voters in Pacifica. There are 12678 Democrats (56.1%), 5144 Decline-to-States (22.8%), and 3693 Republicans (16.3%). I work as a poll-worker in Pacifica, and I can assure you that Republicans who come in to vote are few and far between.

I can't paste anything into the comment field, and I'm sure I'd mistype the link, but if you do a google search on "california secretary of state march 20, 2009 report of registration", a link should pop up.

Jeffrey W Simons said...

Steve,

perhaps some voters feel disenfranchised, like their vote really doesn't matter. I think the point I was making is that I am a liberal Democrat so its hard to accuse me of picking on a group of people I represent and with whom I identify strongly. Of course, I always welcome the views of conservatives, Republicans, Libertarians, heck even John Birchers. Everyone is entitled to their political views.

I think what is being made fun of is liberal and environmental extremism, and the disastrous effect their policies have had on the City of Pacifica. You seem to be in synch with that idea. There will always be people who "take sides" depending on their political bent, and we welcome their right to speak freely on this blog. But ultimately, from my experience, there are big D Democrats and Democrats in Name Only, and I feel the party in San Mateo is pretty split. I don't like that people calling themselves Democrats are really Sierra Club or Earth Firsters who only support the environmental aspect of the Democrat Platform and actively work against economic development and social equality.

So I truly believe not all "Democrats" will vote the same way in Pacifica or for the same reasons. Our challenge is to educate the public, and hopefully unify enough votes behind more economically progressive candidates in 2010.

Or more succinctly stated, there will be some Democrats who are offended by what is posted here, and there will be some who nod their heads in agreement.

Majority of Republicans have moved out a long time ago and are still leaving. Many of those Californians were here for many generations and were forced out by high taxes and loss of properties. Leland Yee wants Cali to be a one party state. He is from China.

Steve Sinai said...

No Jeffy, once again you're assuming my comments have been directed at you, when in fact they're directed toward everyone in general.

I love opposing opinions, and if this was a blog where everyone agreed, we'd be pretty boring. Just look at Riptide these days.

My point is that it takes a majority to win. If we can attract conservatives and Republicans without resorting to, and defending rhetoric like "liberals are idiots" and "Obama wants to destroy America," then I'm all for it. Otherwise, I'd rather focus our message on the 70-plus percent of the city that's moderate and/or liberal. There are plenty of dissatisfied of people like that who are unhappy with the way the city's being run.

Steve Sinai said...

Yes Kathleen, we hate anyone who isn't white and wasn't born in America.

Overall, this blog really sucks! There are a few interesting and provocative articles, some with good satire, as well as some interesting and clever comments.

But there are definitely a few know-it-all, self-righteous trolls who ruin it for me. One in particular has the same initials as Himler's organization - I sense he would like to run this blog and the city the same way. Lose him and his snotty attitude, unring that Bell, exterminate that mouse, tell Chatty Kathy to pay more attention to what she reads before she attacks and tell the residual extremists to chill and talk Pacifica - not national. Maybe then you might have something here. Although i have never met him, one person who seems to get it on this blog is Jeffrey Simons. You ought to listen to him. He might save you from yourselves. Too bad you people couldn't get it together and get him elected to CC.

Democrat, Republican, other, don't make any difference at the local level. In fact locally, we should be party blind. Candidates are not even required to disclose their party affiliation. It's not about party! So grow up! All of you... Drop your Obama or Bush pom poms and keep your eye on the local ball. Don't make me turn this car around!
