Susan Pfeifer to Address Pacifica Democrats on Obama's Healthcare Reform on Saturday, November 21, 2009

On Saturday mornng, November 21, 2009, Susan Pheifer, from Organizing for America (OFA) will be the guest speaker at the Pacifica Democrats monthly breakfast meeting, which is held in the rear meeting room of the Sharp Park Golf Course Restaurant, located at Francisco and Sharp Park Blvds. in Pacifica.

Her topic will be on the President's Healthcare reform and the work of Organizaing for America (OFA). She will bring to the Democrats as up-to-date information on the healthcare reform legislation as is available by the Democrat's meeting date. With luck and a lot of hard work from OFA volunteers, the House recently passed a historic healthcare reform bill that has been sixty years in the making on November 7, 2009. While the Senate bill may still be pending, Ms Pheifer is prepared to update the Pacifica Democrats on that bill and its status for passage.

Additionally she will also be informing the Democrats about the new organization of OFA and how its volunteers have been involved in the passage of the President's budget and healthcare reform.

Susan's volunteer activites began with the Howard Dean presidential campaign in 2003. Today Susan is the Outreach Chair of San Francisco for Democracy. Tabling and voter registration are two of Susan's favorite activities in which she is engaged today. San Francisco for Democracy, formed in 2005, continues much of the work of Democracy for America (DFA) in San Francisco, including the monthly Meetups.

Susan joined the Barck Obama campaign the day he announced his candidacy, making her first online contribution. She began her work for the Obama campaign with his historic Oakland rally in March 2007. She then set up a weekly Obama table at the Saturday Farmers Market at the SF Ferry Bldg - continuing for more than 6 months. Following the first "Camp Obama" field training, Susan took on the responsibility of coordinating the San Francisco and Daly City areas of California's 12th Congressional District - which includes much of San Mato County - recruiting and training volunteers.

As an elected Barack Obama Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National convention, Susan was privileged to be seated in the front row at Obama's historic acceptance speech at Mile High Stadium in Denver-sitting just 10 yards from the future President. Following the convention, Susan became the weekend phone bank coordinator in San Francisco through election night on November 4, 2008.

Susan was awarded the 2008 Sue Bierman Award for Grass Roots Volunteerism by the San Francisco Democratic Party and is currently serving as an elected Delegate to the California State Convention from Fiona Ma's 12th Assembly District, which also includes parts of San Mateo County. Since the election, Susan has continued her work as a volunteer for Organizing for America, President Obama's new "Field Team", working to pass such legislation as the Budget bill earlier this year and, now, Health Care Reform legislation.

In her professional life, Susan Pfeifer has spent the past ten years as the Advertising Manager for Cal Performances, a major perfomrning arts center on the UC Berkely Campus, where she still works.
