SF Public Golf Alliance: Sharp Park Public Hearing This Thursday

Dear Alliance Members,

San Francisco Recreation and Park will have a public hearing on the Sharp Park Plan this Thursday (November 19) at 2 p.m. in Room 416 of SF City Hall.

The Rec and Park Commission will hold this special early public hearing on Director Ginsburg's win-win recommendation to save the 18-hole Sharp Park Golf Course while restoring habitat for the frog and snake. Sharp Park is Action Items 10 and 11 on the general calendar of the Commission's Nov. 19 agenda.  In addition to hearing the Director's Report, the Commissioners will take public comment from all interested persons--not limited to San Francisco residents.

We need to pack City Hall for this public hearing and make our voice heard.  Please come to testify why you want to keep Sharp Park Golf Course open.  If you cannot attend, you can contact local, state and federal public officials (click for quick and easy email and letter templates).

Thank you very much.

Keep hammering away on Riptide. Let your voice be heard.

My Riptide post:

People, this is the same old story here. More mis-information on behalf of Plater and the CBD, of which Plater says he has no affliation. The course does not lose money and rounds are up. That is a fact!!!

Why can't the Frog lovers be happy be the report? Because it does not give them the and they so desperatly are seeking. This issue is a land grab pure and simple. Plater does not want compromise because it would be a defeat in his eyes and nothing to put on his resume later down the road.

Sharp Park has a chance to become a nationaly recognized muncipal course that lives with nature. Why can't he got it?

Please don't be fooled by Plater and his crew. There is money to be made here for them and they won;t get any if the report is passed. That is what they care about.

Butch:
I was involved with Brent Plater in the Negotiated Rulemaking process for a Pet Policy in the GGNRA. This process was touted by the GGNRA as a "good faith" collaborative venture designed to bring to the table the various stakeholders in the GGNRA/NPS. This included various environmental groups (e.g, the CBD, Audubon, Native Plant Society, Sierra Club), dog advocacy groups (e.g., SFDOG, OBDOG, SFSPCA, CFDOG, FFDOG, PRODOG) as well as other recreational and child welfare interests. The baseline for the negotiations was the 1979 GGNRA Pet Policy (recently upheld as the law of the land by a Federal Appellate Court). The 1979 Pet Policy had already been negotiated by a variety of environmetal and animal welfare groups and included a number of off leash recreation areas including Ocean Beach, Fort Funston, Crissy Field, Lands End, Bakers Beach and certain designated areas of the Presidio. These areas were selected based upon historical precedence established by the dog walking community prior to the GGNRA aquiring its properties from the city of SF.

Participation in the negotiations was predicated upon a willingness to compromise. The long and the short of it was after one year of negotiations, at a cost to taxpayers of close to one million dollars, the CBD Negotiated Rulemaking representative and self appointed spokesperson for the environmental interests, one Brent Plater, Esq., refused to agree to ANY off leash recreation space whatsoever in the GGNRA!

What you are experiencing with Plater with respect to Sharp Park can only be described as serial pathological behavior.

Butch,
I stopped going to Riptide after I had several comments moderated out of existence. The comments were not personal - they were on topic - they just disagreed with the posts. I was mystified by this, as I could see that at least some disagreement and debate was tolerated in the comments. I concluded that since I identified myself as a SF resident, only Pacificans were welcome there.

It's their blog, they can do what they want. I like it better here.

In any case - you might enjoy my latest post...

"Center for Biological Diversity throws a hissy fit"

... written in response to CBD's latest press release (part of my continuing series on Sharp Park).

Feel free to use the graphics or content as you see fit.

mw - great blog! Thanks for providing a link. Yes the CBD could not infiltrate the fair and objective process with their pre-ordained result, and they are throwing a full blown temper tantrum. But we cannot underestimate them, nor their supporters. They will say or do anything to further their cause, without hesitation. Plater, Butler, Davidson, Mirkarimi . . . remember these names and hold them accountable.

Rocky, sounds like we are in for one long fight then.

This guy is a land grabber pure and simple.

BTW, Riptide did not post my comments.

The only reason to go to Riptide anymore is if you want information on environmental grant writing.
