Bet you a dime, a plastic bag ban is coming to San Mateo County

Too may plastic bags harming marine mammals, fish and wildlife. Some of us are not guilty.

The Daily Journal (San Mateo County), Michelle Durand, 10/22/12.  "County looks at banning plastic bags."

Look out fish here I come
"The question paper or plastic will become a thing of the past and choosing a disposable bag at all will come with a price under a proposed ban coming before San Mateo County supervisors at the beginning of November. If passed, the ordinance will prohibit plastic bags in the unincorporated areas starting in April and paves the way for two dozen Peninsula cities to follow its lead. Patrons without reusable bags can still request a paper version from retailers but will be charged first a dime and after Jan. 1, 2015 a quarter.

"Its mine."  "No its mine."
The Board of Supervisors Oct. 23 will considering certifying the program’s environmental impact report and, if so, follow with adoption of the prohibition ordinance at the Nov. 6 meeting.

Twenty-four cities in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties also participated in the EIR process but each city council will need to adopt the ban for it to be effective in those jurisdictions.

....  The cities included in the San Mateo County EIR are Belmont, Brisbane, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Menlo Park, Millbrae, Pacifica, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Woodside, Milpitas, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Campbell and Mountain View.

The Board of Supervisors meets 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct 23 in Board Chambers, 400 County Government Center, Redwood City."  Read article.

There go more jobs. Instead of banning plastic bags and forcing business's to lay workers off,, Jobs could be created collecting and recycling plastic bags.

don't we already do that?

Good thinking. Let's not ban something that pollutes the environment and kills wildlife because it might result in a few workers being laid off. Instead, let's employ people to collect those plastic bags and recycle them. Oh, there will be some bags that don't get collected and will still kill wildlife and pollute the environment but that's a small price to pay for keeping jobs for people making plastic bags. And the taxpayers can pay for the new jobs collecting and recycling. Good plan all around.

We never needed the plastic shopping bag. That was a creation of the oil and plastic industry.

Brown paper bags worked fine for a couple hundred years before plastic bags.

The oil and gas industry has created hundreds of thousands of jobs you moron. You people have no clue the kind of world you are creating with all your bans and anti-corporation propaganda. YOU CANT LIVE IN THAT WORLD. You couldn't survive. Oh, and now cutting down trees is fashionable again. Pathetic.
