Pacifica Police Participate in Red Ribbon Week with Local Schools

The City of Pacifica

2012 RED RIBBON WEEK

October 23 – 31

Participating School Fact Sheet

What is Red Ribbon Week?

Red Ribbon Week is Our Nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program that reaches out to millions of American Students during the last week in October of every year. Through participation in school organized classroom level anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena who was killed by illegal drug dealers. Participation in Red Ribbon Week is an ideal way for Pacifica’s Elementary and Middle Schools to unite with the Pacifica Police Department and take a visible stand against substance abuse.

Pacifica School District and Private Schools, participating in Red Ribbon Week are encouraged to conduct school wide educational programs and individual classes are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding and commitment by decorating their classroom doors with a “The Best Me is Drug Free” theme.

The Pacifica Police Department will judge the decorated classroom doors on Friday, October 26th between 10:00AM and 2:00PM. The classroom door judged to be the best door in each school will be awarded a prize in recognition of their effort. Luigi’s Italian Restaurant, The French Patisserie and Stillpoint On The Coast Massage & Bodywork are providing the winning door prizes in support of the Red Ribbon Week Activities.

Classroom Door Decorating Guidelines

Classroom door decorations must support the “The Best Me is Drug Free” theme.

Door decorations must be designed, crafted and assembled by the students, assisted by their teacher. If, multi-media, animation, video etc. is used as part of the door decoration, the students must have crafted and produced the multi-media effect.

I like this. Good job PD. Get out to the school kids early.

In a town of useless stoners, this message has to be pounded into the kids early.

Pacifica Police need our support. Too many parents with high schoolers use drugs and sell drugs out of their home and even make their children and friends go out and sell or buy drugs for them. Tired of these scumbags corrupting our youth.

Paranoid, cranky people who make up all kinds of imaginary statistics and scenarios remind me of the old guy at the end of Scooby Doo waving his fist and screaming "...and I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids!"

Was that the guy on Dell Rd in Linda Mar? I don't think 752 is making that up. The guy is dead.
Neighbors say they heard some sort of late-night disturbance.

And certain council members want to outsource our police? What would they think if this happened in their neighborhood? Perish the thought! Could this downgrade their property value? Oh yah, one of them don't even own a home. The cops know who the dirtbags are in our community.
We need to support our force, they know who is the problem within our community.

Parents are making their kids sell drugs? Really? If you know about it you should call the PD.

Very sad about the kid being killed.

Uh, this crime, which is stronly rumoured to be a drug-related murder, happened while "our police" were on duty and fully responsible for community safety. Maybe it's more of an indicator that it is time for an upgrade to the sheriff's because the current force is short on experience with serious crime. We're bound to see more frequent serious crime as the economy stumbles along. Not saying murder will become commonplace but we've got trouble here.

They would be the same cops if the sheriff took over 815. You wouldn't see any difference.

I do support our PD that's why I'm for outsourcing if we ever have the chance again. If we don't outsource more cuts in staff are sure. I'd rather keep all our officers working.

I have reported it. Several times. They are still doing it and it is more than one family. The police can only do so much, because of the laws protecting citizens rights, which I agree with, and I support our local pd. The police are not responsible for what we allow to go on in our homes. We as a community need to help each other and help the youth find jobs and other opportunities. It is not very difficult. This is such a tragic death. In one week we have lost two young Pacifica men. Sensless deaths. These were popular young men with lots of friends and raised in Pacifica. I would hope that the Chief of Police would hold some kind of townhall meeting. Things are getting ugly in our once peaceful city.

Hutch I know what you mean but I think we would see a difference, a very positive difference. The SMC Sheriff's have resources and training that a local PD does not. I expect even the Pacifica officers who stay on will meet a higher standard. Better opportunities will cut turnover and attract better candidates. The sooner the better. The men and women who protect us deserve every advantage on the job.

It's going to get a whole lot uglier and we are ill-equipped to deal with it.

@852 When what is allowed to go on in our homes is illegal it is a police matter. If your reports have not resulted in an effective police effort perhaps this apparently drug related murder will.

Sounds like the Pacifica PD got their man and did it quickly. Don't know the details but this is the only good news in this tragedy.
Good job PPD and thank you!

Insert your own random accusation against your neighbor here.

Don't forget to declare it as a fact.

Well our police force is under staffed and out gunned. If something big happens they will have to wait for San Bruno,SSF, Daly City to help out.

You simpletons watch too much TV. You expect the police to investigate and solve a crime in 60 minutes or less like SVU and CSI.

The county has contacts with state law enforcement and the FBI. They also have the county crime lab and many more detectives.

Moral in the city is very low in almost every department cause they see the damage the do nothing council has done.

The Sheriff will come in on the north end and clean up the town from north to south.

That includes warrant arrests, known drug dealers, meth houses, dealers and gang bangers.

We have had a meth house on our block for years. And another one down the street. People constantly pulling up going in and leaving a few minutes later. Some arrests have been made there over the years but it continues. It's just too much fop Pacifica PD to do the undercover work required to make a major bust.

Yes, give our guys the tools and manpower they need. Outsource please!

I have three drug houses all around me. I see them walk from house to house. They all work together, I think, well at least two of the houses do. Children live in these homes. Young people hang out at all hours in the front of the yard. Cars speeding by, lots of yelling.

Anonymous said...

We had a similar house next door. Yelling in the middle of the street, cars a creeps at all hours, even a baseball bat beating. The local PD response was quite weak as the house was inhabited by a multi generational local family. They finally moved. I can only hope the houses infecting yer neighborhoods close, move or otherwise leave. It makes all the difference.

After seeing drug houses in my neighborhood operating for many years even after several neighbors have reported them numerous times it is obvious this is beyond the scope of a small town police force. I say bring in the Sheriff asap.

One of the local businesses in town is a local dope den. Dope being sold right in plain sight.

Hard to go to work every day not knowing if your job will be cut and or your pension slashed cause the city leaders chose to listen to the nobies.

One of my neighbors wears a hat to cover up his "My Favorite Martian" antennae. Also, there's a house down the street where a group of witches get together and turn cats into dogs and then back into cats at least three times a week.

You people are ridiculous.

None of that is illegal.

you sure that thing with the cats is legal?

Plenty of thugs in Pacifica and drug-dealing and use is common. Not much is done about. Never has been. I always thought it was part of this town's laid back, uber-tolerant attitude. It's getting ugly out there.
