True, City Councilmember Jim Vreeland did everything but help build a sustainable city economy when there were advantages, and when it was needed. Now we need to try to fix that.
Editor: The
news of Jim Vreeland's resignation brings to mind all the great things
he did for Pacifica during his 15 years serving on City Council.

White holes award for Pacifica economy. |
Jim was
a dedicated member of the Council whose effectiveness is best told in a
list of accomplishments. These include being a champion for: the
San
Pedro Creek flood protection project, the Linda Mar State Beach
restoration effort, the new trail between Rockaway and Linda Mar,
securing funding for erosion control and trail repairs on Cattle Hill,
the construction of the Calera Creek treatment plant and the retrofit of
the solar panels, securing funding for the acquisition of the coastal
strip of land next to Chit Chat cafe, the tunnel and transportation
issues in general as a representative on the County Transportation
Authority, all things pertaining to GGNRA and making park lands better
in Pacifica including the acquisition of Mori Point, the steelhead fish
barrier removal projects at Capistrano Avenue and in San Pedro Valley
County Park, the restoration of San Pedro headlands, construction of the
new police station, and the skateboard park. This is not an exhaustive
list, but it is sufficient to highlight some of Jim's major
accomplishments.
There is no doubt Pacifica is better off due to his
hard work, skillful leadership, and dedication to his community and we
wish him well."

I wish Mr Vreeland well but IMO he did us no favors.
The environment is an important issue but too many times it became the main issue and development suffered and Pacifica is now also suffering.
Moving forward we need a council that is focused more on expediting economic development rather than delaying and blocking it.
Seems like the right thing to do here is to leave Mr. Vreeland and his family out of the commentary. I'm no fan but piling-on when someone's down is pretty low.
Pacifica is a target-rich environment. Pick out another, please.
Now it's time for Dejarnett and Digre to follow Jim's lead.
A little bird told me the recall of these two is still happening.
Oh baloney. The guy crippled our city for the past several months and blocked progress for a decade.
We're supposed to sugar coat that? What is Vreeland a saint all of a sudden? BS.
We're in a crisis here and much of it is thank's to Jim, Sue and Pete. One down two to go.
You don't like to hear my opinion? Then don't read it.
And who mentioned his family?
So does anyone know where Jimmy V was last Saturday? And why was half of our police force out on the beach looking for him. Sounds like a loud cry for help.
We're not supposed to talk about than Anon 8:00
Never mind that tax dollars were spent looking for him.
He is just a regular citizen now so we have no right to ask what happened even though if it were us it would be in the police beat.
I've never seen so much mystery over an "illness"
Can someone say Betty Ford?
Hutch, the ref to family might be made because most families are very involved when a member is having problems. The Vreeland family, which includes young children, is probably no different. Seems like common decency to stop attacking another human being who is clearly suffering and has withdrawn from public life. But maybe like common sense, common decency isn't so common. I'm no Vreeland fan but beyond the politics I can sure see the personal tragedy in this and I sincerely hope it doesn't get worse. Fix pacifica has nothing to gain by posting articles on Vreeland.
Good to know where you stand, Hutch.
Anon 737, Pete can't be recalled within 6 months of the end of a term per state law. If he runs and is re-elected seems kind of silly to try a recall. Not sure what the Team Recall Brain Trust has cooking but Pete may elude them.
Well it's hard to have empathy considering I have no idea what is wrong with Mr Vreeland.
with all those accolades listed, not one mention on improving our economy within pacifica.
I didn't vote for Mr Vreeland, but I refuse to beat up on him. He is gone. Left. Resigned. And if he was missing and in trouble his wife has every right to ask for help. You would expect the same. Leave the family alone. He has rights.
