La Mordida

I was driving by the former Manor Taco Bell today, and saw a sign announcing the coming of a restaurant called, "La Mordida." Given how long it takes restaurants to open in Pacifica, it should be ready sometime in 2014.

Hope it's as good as Taco Bell.

Mordida is also "bite." There are 2 Taqueria La Mordidas in San Jose. They get pretty good reviews on Yelp.

Mordida in Spanish actually means bite so fits a casual restaurant fine. In Mexico the common meaning is a bribe, an entirely different kind of bite.

So who bribed who?

Wait til the doors open for business. Only way to tell.

I totally don't get it. Mordida literally means "bite." But it's not used to refer to a bite to eat. It's when you "put the bite" on someone ... in other words, a mordida is a bribe.

Do the owners think we gringos are too dumb to know that? Or do you have to bribe someone to get served?

Well anyway i wish them luck. The Taco Bell's been vacant for a couple of years and it would be great to have more food choices in the area.

I think it's clever because it is open to several interpretations. They can call it anything they want. Just get it open and make sure the food is good. We got nothin' out here.
