Attached is a great illustration for
highway widening alternatives. The photo compares how much space is
needed to transport 60 people by either car, bus or bicycle. Please use
this if you can when discussing the Calera Parkway project in Pacifica.

Where's the bus going? Reno? That's the only way you'll get 60 people on one bus. It's gotta go somewhere people want to go. And the bikes! Is that from one of those rides in SF that all the working types just love so much?
The cars. My guess is their trying to get to work, unlike some people that don't have to navigate that mess every morning. What's it with people that don't have to commute!
Yeah frustrated commuter, the bus is going to Reno. And when you're retired and on it, it will still be stuck in traffic unless something smart is done about Vallemar school and the traffic signals. Widening the road will just mean more cars can be stopped at the signal at the same time. Outstanding!
Typical Caltrans overkill as they steamroll through another town to realize some badly outdated regional plan. They love the gullible locals who buy their agenda and keep those paychecks coming.
Please do not use this silly illustration when discussing the highway widening. The non-car alternatives are about as relevant as taking a fleet of magic carpets and pegasuses (pegasi?) to work from Pacifica.
Buses are not a viable alternative because the NIMBY faux-environmentalists have obstructed any chance at more dense housing developments, which is the only way we could afford to support any form of mass transit. It's also ridiculous to include the two people who regularly commute by bicycle, as they are a rounding error in the overall traffic volume. That leaves us with cars.
True, cars are the only way most people commute to work from here and that's not going to change. This area opted out of high-density development back in the 70's when the big land giveaways started. No do-overs with the feds. Those decisions set the limits and largely determined what this town will be. But that doesn't mean we have to accept Caltrans butchering their way through town on some outdated regional agenda for development that local governments don't want and regulatory agencies and public interest groups will fight...and a devastated and very fragile economy will not support. Caltrans can do better for Pacifica than to dismember the town. Back to the drawing board for an effective, town-friendly solution. Pacifica deserves better.
"Dismember the town"?!?!?
You people are more ridiculous than the Tea Party.
Nobody cares about how much space a bus or car or bike takes up. They care about how long it takes to get to work.
true that..less car time
it is going to look like separate towns once you pass rockaway into linda mar and i totally like the idea
I don't want to listen to Todd Bray talking about bicycles as a commute option until he rides one to San Francisco and back at least once.
The above post may just be the stupid post in the history of the Internet!
I think Todd was actually on the bus, not on a bike.
Wow, has someone had a change of heart about Todd? Friends forever?
Nothing's funnier than Jim Alex calling people stupid using his second-grade grammar.
