Love the belt buckle . . .

“This is absurd,” Plater said. “There has been hundreds of frogs and snakes killed at Sharp Park. We know because we’ve seen the dead eggs, we’ve seen the dead bodies. Those deaths have been caused because of the pumping and mowing operations.

“There’s never anywhere been a picnicker that’s killed a frog or a snake,” he added. “Sharp Park golf course is losing money. It’s killing endangered species and it puts the surrounding community at risk every year when it floods.”

uhm bullsh*t, bullsh*t, and . . . bullsh*t . . .

This guy can't help himself. He loves the publicity. As I have said before, he is resume building and nothing more.

A sad patheic example of SF and the enviormental extremists have become. This guy and his crew are dangerous and want nothing more than people out of natures way.

This maniac needs to be stopped.

@Butch,I read you capital researh link. It frightens me that in some of our public schools they are teaching our children to support these causes.

The article stated they were surprised that this is going on in America. I am not. We can stop these people. They have no right to take away our cultures. Sharp Park Golf Course is part of our culture here in Pacifica. We let them take our golf course then there is no stopping them from eventually taking our homes. We need to teach our children that these people and organizations are a threat to our American Constitution. I believe, one way to stop them, is to prevent any taxes raised and to limit government. These types of Plater Pods work for our government. Meaning, we the tax payers are paying for their jobs. Limit government. Call our representatives. Take away their funds, all means in the end we have to vote in the right people who will fight for our rights to exist. Otherwise, I believe people like Plater Pod, will have us exterminated. Sound extreme? Not to Plater Pods.

Well said Kathleen. This guy is a nut and there are so many more like him in town. These people do not understand that Sharp Park Golf Course offers so much more than just golf. This is truly a local meeting place, a genourous donater to local charities and a place where many lifelong friendships have been created.

Plater asserts in this article that "golfers are rich". Well, there are not too many rich people playing at Sharp Park. This is a course where the working class, the retired & kids can all play for as little as $15.00 per round.

It is so disturbing to me that this guy, and others like him here in Pacifica want to disrupt this place and take away the recreation choice of thousands of people. Sharp Park recorded over 50,000 rounds played in the last fiscal year. The Sharp Park Golf Club posted it's highest tournament participation in 2009 in the last 5 years. Plater like to point out that rounds are down at Sharp Park. Yet another lie by him. Rounds are up, why is that? Because Sharp Park is affordable.

Butler, Maybury and the rest of Platers minions just don't get it. They want to take away a classic and a treasure of a course. The pressure needs to saty on these people and they need to be called out for their constant lies and misrepresentations.

That's nice Winter, glad you're getting some. But, please spare us. The mere thought of Plater as a sex object might send some locals to.....

The reason Plater has "BRENT" so prominently displayed on his belt buckle is that so when he looks down in that vicinity and sees nothing he will not mistake himself for "BRENDA".

"The 35-year-old environmental lawyer, rarely seen in public without a freshly pressed suit and a gold-plated belt buckle with his name on it"

WTF - I mean - What 35 year old man wears a giant gold belt buckle with their name on it? How narcissistic is that?

John,
One lawyer to another - you are being unfair. I don't see a problem with the belt buckle.

Biologist on endangered species at Sharp Park

Anon,
You don't have to go that far. I posted that Karen Swaim video and quotes here last December 20. Fix Pacifica gets it first. Coastsider and everyone else catches up a month or two later.

The important point is this. Karen Swaim is the foremost authority on the Red-legged frog and the SF garter snake in the Bay Area. She has been working with both species and specifically this habitat around Mori Point and Sharp Park for over 20 years. She is regarded as an expert on this topic by GGNRA, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the SF Rec and Parks Commission. In the video she directly contradicts the representations made by lawyer Brent Plater in this article.

So who you gonna believe? A scientist who has been studying the frog and snake in this habitat for 20 years? Or a lawyer with an appetite for publicity and a financial interest in suing The City?

Wait - before you answer. Remember that Karen Swaim does not have a big gold belt buckle with her name on it.

Can anyone spare a moment to tell me if I have these timetables/scenarios correct?

1) pre-golf course. Area comprised of coastal dunes and coastal grass (think back of Linda Mar beach) with creek emptying to ocean. No red-legged-frogs or San Francisco Garter snakes present due to incompatible environment.

2) Golf course built and sea berm installed. With berm installed and creek "dammed up," frogs and snakes appear because a conducive habitat has been created for them.

Here's what I can't figure out: do those who want to protect the snakes and frogs want the golf course returned to it's "native state?" Because in my mind, it's native state was one of coastal dunes -- inhospitable to the very snakes and frogs they want to save.

Do I have this all wrong?

Thanks for any insights.
