Mayor of Pacifica to Give State of the City Address to the Pacifica Democrats on Saturday, January 16, 2010

On Saturday, January 16, 2010, newly elected Mayor Sue Digre will be the guest speaker at the 9:30 a.m. Pacifica Democrat's breakfast meeting, which will be held in the rear meeting room of the Sharp Park Golf Course Restaurant, Francisco and Sharp Park Blvds, in Pacifica. Her topic will be the "State of the City", a Pacifica Democrat's traditional yearly presentation.

At the beginning of each year, the local Democrat's club invites the newly elected Mayor to start off the new year by giving members of the public, not just Democrats, an update on what the city has done, what it is currently doing and what plans are in the hopper for future action...All citizens are encouraged to bring their questions for the new Mayor. This event has historically proven to be a lively affair, if not also a highly informative one, at the same time.

Digre, who was formally installed on Monday night, December 14, 2009, will begin her second turn as Mayor of Pacifica. The five members of the City Council are elected at large to four-year terms. The Mayor is selected from among the members of the council by majority vote. The Mayor of Pacifica serves a one-year term, beginning in November of each year. Digre previously served as Mayor in 2005, the last year of her first term with the City Council. Her current second term with the City Council expires in November 2010.

A long-time advocate of the phrase, "Our ecology is our economy", Digre is looking for ways to make the economy of Pacifica sustainable, while at the same time protecting the beauty of its environment. She is all about moving forward and understands the need for the development of Pacifica's business community. Knowing that Pacifica has many challenges on many different levels, Digre is excited about the various active committees and new groups in town, who are working together to make Pacifica a better place. She looks forward to answering many questions from Pacifica's citizens at the Democrat's breakfast meeting and asks that attendees write down their questions ahead of time and submit them upon their arrival at the meeting. Speaking to the public is a two way street for Digre and she wants to hear what the public is concerned about and how the city can interface with their needs and concerns. She values highly the ability to listen and learn.

There are many issues currently facing the City of Pacifica including: the fate of the Sharp Park Golf Course, the fate of the seawall, the development of the Palmetto business district, the fate of the quarry, the marketing of the city, the development of the new waste management contract, the sustainability of Pacifica's small businesses, the economic growth, the city's budget, the police and fire services and more, but always it's the economy of the city overall...

Digre is both a wife, a mother and a grandmother. She is also an advocate of the developmentally disabled and students with learning challenges. Currently she is the Family Support Services Director and Advocate for PARCA. She is also co-founder of the South Bay Blue Star Moms and the Pacifica Military Moms. Two of her sons are currently serving in the Military. One is a medic and the other is a Black Hawk Helicopter pilot.

Bring your questions and concerns to the Pacifica Democrat's meeting on January 16th, the new Mayor awaits addressing them.

All Pacifica Democrat meetings are open to the public. One neither needs to be a member of the club, nor even a Democrat to attend. A full breakfast is offered for $12, continental breakfast for $6 and coffee for $3. No purchase is necessary. Doors open at 9am. Seating is between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. For further infomation, or to RSVP, please contact Pacifica Democrat's President, Barbara Arietta at 415-246-0775 or email her at barietta@hotmail.com .
