I'm pretty sure Tom and Heather posted to Riptide and Patch, too.
As much as I'd like candidates to engage the public via the blogs, it may not be worth it. You've got too many people on either side who will reflexively attack candidates they don't like, and the conversations degenerate to the point where everyone looks like rabid idiots.
I believe Mike Oneill posted here. I know Fix supported him.
Wow the hate for this site from the gang of no is funny. They really fear Fix. I wouldn't doubt they write candidates and council to tell them bs like 658 just threw up.
In reality nimby's say some of the meanest on either site. Check out what Todd said yesterday about Ruchames and Peables on Rip.
Blogs have not been a part of Pacifica since the get go and are relatively a new thing. Spano did and is campaigning really hard, he could be the first to win. Mike O'neill submits things to Fix Pacifica, so there you go.
A new fire station costs about 3 million. A bargain considering they will save our asses when the big one does come. And grants are availible to subsidize much of the cost.
A much better investment then a 30 million library/council chambers. After an earthquake do we need firemen or politicians? Let's get our priorities straight here.
Yeah I believe comments like 808 are Bray even though he says he doesn't post here anon. We know much of what comes out of his mouth is bs.
Here's what Spano says on his video about the widening: "Let's look at this Hwy 1 project and see if there's like some things we can change before it moves along."
Actually 11:19 the cost of building a fire station are less for us because we're using existing sites and equipment. It's probably under 3mil. And as stated there are grants to cover much of the cost.
Firemen, Bad Bray, fire stations, quakes. So, we have no answer from the candidate on the highway widening. Is it yes or no? Poster at 1050 shared Spano's video remark which is a non-answer. Keener's come out. Ruchames and Spano keeping secrets? Ohhh, it's a Campaign Strategy? Well, at a time when council has proven itself untrustworthy, you'd think the best campaign strategy would be honesty and forthrightness in all things. Being all things to all people occasionally works for the candidate, but it's always a disaster for the people.
1119 Americans love their fire stations and firemen. Post 9/11 you can't have a political campaign without them. Extra points for a candidate that can use the word "seismic" and makes us think about the Big One. Intoxicating!
1232 Wrong. In Pacifica, you always go with the higher figure and if it comes in at less than double, high fives in closed session and a gathering of beagles for the front page photo op.
Nope Kathy, still looking for my second and third candidates, but I do think Digre and Keener are being honest. Do I really have to choose between a candidate who's honest and one who's not? I strongly prefer Mr. Spano's economic qualifications, and like his vision for the OWWTP, but I expect honesty on all the issues all the time. It's about character and it's a deal breaker. I note Spano listed "Honest Transparent Government" as a priority on his Fix Pacifica thread. That's nice. Hope he appreciates people rising to his defense for what sure looks like situational ethics aka campaigning. I've been there more than once, know what it looks like, and what kind of people it puts in office.
Yo, 12:32, the 9 million is just for the building, not land or equipment.
Since the firefighters and equipment have to be housed SOMEWHERE during construction how do you plan on doing this without relocating? Do you plan on running on a single station during the build?!
besides, you're missing the best part which is that last bullet point of his
ol slick vic wants to sell everything not nailed down in this town to fund more reports from consultants uh huh this time a geasibility study for skyline blvd
ummmm victor, have you had a gander at the budget lately cuz we're four mil in the hole and sinking fast
feasibility study... dude... new fire stations, new hires, new studies... NONE of this feasible!!!!!!
Ur, 1037, Victor Spano supports needed city economic development. And that's his professional background and education.
What Victor Spano said is "sell unused city properties to pay for needed city services". The "selling stuff off to pay higher salaries" is your made-up, fake commentary.
Supporting "needed city services" is a broad, generic comment. "Needed city services" could included the current gaps in city funding, or part of a plan to dig this city out of a long-term structural financial and economic short-fall.
1239, 133, true John Keener and Sue Digre have honest slogans which amount to: "Nothing for Pacifica," except the continuing path to city bankruptcy. But, I agree the more straight forward city council candidates are the better for voters and our city.
Except, "our environment is our economy" Councilmember Sue Digre says she supports "economic development", and that is neither straightforward, or is it true (within any reasonable understanding of the issue). She was against quarry development 2x, and is against highway 1 improvement (widening). This city needs city council candidates who will act in office to bring progress, rather than do the "we attended meetings" and "we can do nothing" kabuki.
Valiant effort Kathy, but I'm still looking for my second and third candidates. It wouldn't be the first election where I didn't cast all my votes. 25 years of Pacifica elections has taught me not to vote for someone against my better judgement and never to make excuses for them. Took me 20 years to learn that, but I've got it.
While we're buying all this crap, and even debating it, put me down for a pony. People, it's campaign season. They lie. They'll say anything to get elected, or, hilariously, in Spano's case, won't say that one little thing. He's perfect council material. He'll disappear into that maw like a handful of cheezits. Now, you wanna gum up the works, vote for Therese Dyer. Closest thing to an abazaba we're going to see in this race.
The people on council spend a lot of time with each other. In the best of all worlds, they 'gel" into a great working unit, but some councils quibble and argue with each other all the time. My big question is Who do Mary Ann and Karen want to win? I heard they are both attending John Keener's campaign launch and fundaraiser, so it looks like that is the hot ticket in town as far as party's go.
I feel that Eric and Mike think and know they are shoe-ins. Who do they want to get that third spot?
It appears that Sue Digre wants John Keener to take Len Stone's seat. Or maybe she likes Eric?
What is the worst of all evils for council members O'neill, Mary Ann and Karen? Having Sue Digre for another term, or...John Keener Spano, Dyer or Dougherty dis-lodging Digre?
The Noby's don't understand that the highway issue is not the most important thing to most Pacificans. Taxes and financial stability are. What does Keener offer in that regard?
And who ever the genius is that keeps repeating Victor wants to sell assets to pay salaries can't read.
Boy the noby's are against Victor like they're against this site. Afraid much? They are getting more desperate now as their options are running out and think their whole world depends on electing Keener.
519 Jeezlaweez, no, they're just being, you know, collaborative. It ain't Keener's ass they're kissing, it's the nimbys and their votes. Could be a little of the old 'my gang will back your guy if your gang backs mine'? Keener is the nimbys guy and I think Eric Ruchames is her guy. Agrees on everything, taxes, library, spending, cautious and careful. He's got to be more palatable to the nimbys than Spano. No love lost between Nihart and Digre. Maybe she'd prefer Keener. Even O'Neill has been a little hard to control, 'tho nothing like Digre. With 7 candidates and a low turn-out election, it could get veddy interesting. Or they all outfox each other and Therese gets in. The end of the world that would not be.

No fence-sitting til you're elected, Victor. Do you or don't you support widening the highway? Use the "W" word and tell us where you stand.
No one who has posted to Fix Pacifica while running four council has ever been elected, Victor. Ask Tom Clifford, Heather Tanner or any of the others.
This is no coincidence and is something you should think carefully about rather than embracing.
I'm pretty sure Tom and Heather posted to Riptide and Patch, too.

wtf?! spano wants to sell off the city's assets to pay for new fire stations???!!!
unbelievable
The "gang of no"
Spread lies, confuse the public, twist the facts, send out bugel boy Bray with false information.
How they roll. Zero credibilty.
Hutch
And this surprises you? Nothing is beneath the "gang of no" and their slimy tactics.
Filing false restraining orders, filing false police reports.

Hey, 10:11, why don't you get YOUR priorities straight. Spano's flyer says he'll "sell unused city properties to pay for needed services."
So what do YOU support now? Selling stuff off to support economic development, or selling stuff off to pay higher salaries like Spano wants to do.
Make up your mind.
10:11
3 million seems a bit low!
Here's what Spano says on his video about the widening: "Let's look at this Hwy 1 project and see if there's like some things we can change before it moves along."
$3 million LOL
the average fire station will easily run you $9 million
Actually 11:19 the cost of building a fire station are less for us because we're using existing sites and equipment. It's probably under 3mil. And as stated there are grants to cover much of the cost.

1011 Doesn't matter which one you'd need more after a quake, politicians or firemen. Politicians are cockroaches. They'd survive.
1232 Wrong. In Pacifica, you always go with the higher figure and if it comes in at less than double, high fives in closed session and a gathering of

Who will sign off on the change orders and overages and over budget pay outs?
Now that "cowboy" Scott is gone?

131 Settle down there, pardner and don't you worry because this city can still match that earlier regime, cowboy for cowboy. New lows await us.
guys, guys, come on, let's not fight

Asking them not to fight, in Pacifica.
You might as well ask them not to drink and or cuss also!
Karen also promised us a new and revatalized Palmetto.
They dug up the street put a couple wires underground(the street still has overhead wires) and nothing else was done.
Mary Ann and Karen are endorsing Keener?
Victor Spano's campaign slogan:
"What do you want -- I'm for that too!"
The Noby's don't understand that the highway issue is not the most important thing to most Pacificans. Taxes and financial stability are. What does Keener offer in that regard?

Another benefit of selling surplus property is they will be generating taxes fees jobs, as opposed to just sitting there being an eyesore.
The only thing that will end up revitalized in this town is the bond market as we refinance all our goddamned debt!
Victor, how do you plan on paying for all this stuff that you're promising?
"Woah, I said I'd be transparent but not THAT transparent!"

Isn't one mad scientist enough?
We've had enviros up the yinyang, followed by an absolute dud of a "new council", maybe a little mad science is just what we need. Back to lab, Igor!
