Let's just say it costs $5 million dollars, because we want to. |
.... The funds for the purchase price of $583,000 are not available, but a 15 month option period will give the city time to explore the possibilities of funding from San Mateo County Transportation Authority, Pacifica Land Trust, one time ERAF funding not already assigned to the Pacifica Resource Center, and other potential sources, such as crowdsourcing, Tinfow said. Mayor Mary Ann Nihart brought up the possibility of getting the area designated an official conservation area, which would open a whole new source of grant funding.
Under a prior agreement with San Mateo County Transportation Authority, the city is due to receive $360,000 in reimbursement funds for the purchase of land from the Tronoff family, also to complete the trail. Those funds could be applied toward the purchase price for Colt's land." Read article.

I rode my bike along Hwy 1 to the tunnel last Sunday and it was a harrowing experience because of the very narrow shoulder and the close passing vehicles. I hope the "trail" will include a bicycle lane like the one for Devil's Slide Trail. Is this part of the plan?
Good article Jane. She calmly explains this and it's obvious it's not a big deal.
On the other hand if we would wait to take action like Sue wanted we would surely lose a lot of funding.
236 It's a safety widening. Just don't fall off and always wear your helmut.
Jeez, get that guy an emoticon for "good article".
326, what funding will we "surely lose?" We haven't been offered a single lousy nickel for the trail.
After reading the article, I don't see what the NIMBYS' complaint is. Especially since they've always been so gung-ho about trails regardless of cost.
It looks like the intention is to utilize outside funding for most or all of the expense. If it doesn't go forward, the city will only lose $15K-$20K in option money.
I've never bought into the idea that trails will do anything for Pacifica's economy, but if we've gone this far with the Devil's Slide trail, we might as well make it accessible.
It's a great idea with entirely too many moving parts for Pacifica to handle. We don't need the maintenance and manpower costs either. Get out of the way Pacifica City Council and let the county do it.
Some of everyone's very favorite nimbys are waist-deep in this thing but we don't bring them out in front of company these days.
The nimby's are complaining? No. The nimbys are ecstatic-other than a few on Riptide who actually have a problem with the lack of public process. The nimbys have also seen their ranks joined by yessies who would trust this council and this city to take on a project better suited to county gov't. It's par-teee time in nimbyville!
That's it then. Wave the white flags everyone. Fix Pacifica is for more trails in this city. You heard that correctly folks.
My god, the Greenies have won.
539 They've never moved out of the castle. Not for one minute.
3.48 What do you mean, "it's a safety widening?" Isn't there going to be a separate trail through the acquired property?
618 Yes, of course, and it's only a matter of time before someone will want to widen that, too. Seriously, we're talking about the trail project, not the highway. Be safe and read the agenda materials for item #8. All the known info on the trail is there.
The Nimbies are slowly losing their control over the city. It is happening in glacier melting speed but they are.
Loeb and company had a meltdown and filed two lawsuits when city council wouldn't bow down and clean his feet.
All about control. Take control freaks control away, they go mad.
This is like the Space program during the Vietnam War. It's a distraction to the city's money woes. A lofty almost unreachable dream, that is almost plausible...costing millions of dollars. This seems appropriate for a grant application to the open space district or foundations.
739 Not to worry, the nimbys know all the funding sources. Coastal Conservancy gave $200K years ago for some work that Vreeland had done.
