"Developer St. Anton Partners has cleared 10 acres of land at 3639 Haven Ave., off Marsh Road, in Menlo Park in preparation for the construction of a 394-unit apartment complex.
The largest apartment project to arrive in Menlo
Park in decades, the $120 million complex will include a sports pub,
bike repair shop and dog daycare.
Facebook will subsidize 15 of the 37 affordable
housing units. Construction is expected to start within a few weeks and
finish in 2015, according to project representatives."

Every other city can, but Pacifica!
After last Monday night's reveal of the trail to prosperity, does any doubt remain that this council lacks vigor when it comes to economic development? I mean economic development in the usually accepted sense of the word. This trail will occupy every bit of this city's manpower, attention, energy, and initiative for the rest of the decade. Built with grants and such and no city money. Like we'd ever know. Pacificans 10 years from now will be astounded to hear 10 million dollars in city funds are unaccounted for. Oh, look it's a trail!
Yeah, Pacifica is not part of Silicon Valley. So stop feeling jealous about other places.
Keeping the focus on things like mixed-use housing developments in Menlo Park or Palo Alto or Timbuktu certainly does blunt our awareness of just how stupid we have been in not using what we have to generate revenue. It's like an anesthetic. Better we should pine for a spot along the main transit corridor or near some tech giant than do more with what we have. Brilliant. We've done nothing to create city revenue in Pacifica in the last decade. Lots of new expenses, spending money we don't have on idiocy and nothing to show for it.
The blog operators here bemoan the lack of development on one hand but support the city buying up more open space on the other.

719 For all the euphoria on here from time to time about the end of hippie rule, we are still clearly ruled by hippies. Not as extreme or classic hippies perhaps as Lancelle, Loeb, DeJarnatt, Vreeland, Verby, but just as anti-development as any of them. It was particularly heartwarming to see Lancelle do a cameo for Nihart to help shove the Colt deal through. Just happened to be hanging out I guess. Wonder who else was behind the curtain. Oh well, maybe if some of the classic hippies are involved this thing will get built. The new-model hippies couldn't build a blister as they've so ably proven.
I wonder how many of the hippies noobees and gang of no show up for the bankruptcy hearing?

841 Hey, if the county ran the show with that trail (and why the hell aren't they)and ran into a problem they'd use eminent domain and pay what they felt it was worth and get right at it. That would make sense and maybe that was in the plans. But, under the dome of stupid in Pacifica, we'd rather pass the collection plate around and around and around, use city resources (aka money) in planning, admin, etc. You know where that collection plate stops last, don't you? Don't you know? Under the dome of stupid.
Can't tell them apart the nimbys and yessies. They all eat kale and embrace the our environment is our economy mantra. It's evolutionary!
Does city of pacifica own any public land?
1137 Say what? The city owns land scattered throughout Pacifica, including some parcels with a dazzling view up on Pedro Point. Perfect for ritzy condos or some new moghul's private aerie. Hahahahahaha sometimes I forget this is Pacifica.
