Pacifica Tribune/Jane Northrop, 10/10/12. "Council approves work plan for 2012 goals."
Cleaning-up and improving Pacifica's government |
"City Council members approved goals and work plans for the upcoming year during its meeting on Monday.
Those projects span a range of interests that will define the work of City Council for the next year."
Initiatives: government transparency includes wireless; study, analyze and develop a cost allocation plan (consultant); streamline city planning, building and development process; provide clear communication to our community (consultant); develop an economic plan (consultant).
"These initiatives
narrowly passed City Council Monday evening. They were carried by a
majority vote of three council members -- Len Stone, Ginny Jaquith and
Mary Ann Nihart. Mayor Pete DeJarnatt voted against it and Council
Member Sue Digre abstained. Both Digre and DeJarnatt objected to the
costs associated with the implementation of the program. "I object to
how much it costs," DeJarnatt said. "It will cost 83,000." Read article.

This is like going to Costco, buying a whole cart full of toys and not having any money!
What a joke. Goal setting, is it?Guess it's to be expected. This so very with-it council is quick to embrace the methods and language of business but they have yet to produce any results. Were Pacifica a business, it would be closed. Soon enough.
Here we go again. Another consultant for $30,000 to report to yet another city committee. Because economic dev is trendy and it's an election year not because anything will be done with the results. Do you believe we're broke? Ipods for these mumsers. More money for their seminars and gadding about. Won't show up as salary will it? It may be unfashionable on here but Pete and Sue were right to vote no. And this $83,000 in extra spending equals the Resource Center's funding for a year. Outrageous!
Economic development is more than trendy it's vital but this is not the way to get there.
Does this nonsense ever end?
Unbelievable waste of money by a ridiculous council out of touch with the fiscal facts and the public. Such arrogance!
We want to hire someone but don't have the money
Take another bong hit city hall
Wowwee Nihart Stone and Jaquith inhaled. I'll remember this little luxury when I vote in Nov and on that tax measure down the road.
3 stooges just blew $83,000 while they threaten the Resource Center
funding. No shame, they have no shame.
Any day now the state controller's city salary report will be posted.
Looking forward to seeing those big pay reductions we've been told about.
so now the 3 stooges include Len Stone but not Sue Digre or Pete Dejarnatt
@909 Yeah, this time, because they distinguished themselves by voting for this $83,000 package of silly, but other opportunities will present themselves. Stooge designation is EOE.
You gotta love this bunch. They're taking heat for their lack of transparency. Guess what the solution is? Wireless and IPods and a consultant to help them provide clear communication to the community. These are fools.
The issue isn't council. The issue is senior staff. Steve, Ann, George and Van gotta go. Until they are we will continue to fall.
The only person at City Hall who will figure out how to use the Ipad is Kathy the clerk.
The rest of the ipads will be sold on ebay or sit in a locker like the new lap tops for the school board.
The City had to go out and buy Ipad 2's for this monkey crew.
14 years of deficit spending have to stop.
Well with no revenue producing projects how do you propose this? Nothing coming down the pike. Failure
A downtown Palmetto. With Junk yards and trailer courts on one end. National retailers will not come to Palmetto unless you buy out all these crappy businesses and move them somewhere else. At one time Beach Blvd to Palmetto was to be a redevelopment area. This was about the same time Bart was built in Daly City.
The wind bags who belong to the so called "Chamber" should worry about paying the rent and keeping their businesses open. There will be a rash of business closings after the holidays cause many shop owners are ready to thrown in the towel and quit.
With the economy slowing back down and everything leading towards the economy slipping back into recession this could be the final blow to the city that sends it to bankruptcy.
that is why we need to vote for romney! obama has destroyed pacifica and all his socilaist hordes.
Yes 233 I think we can stick a fork in this town. It's done!
anon1155 The issue most certainly is council. Don't fall for their excuses and don't let them shift the blame. They are in charge and they are responsible. The entire Council has well known and richly deserved transparency problems. The solution they come up with is Wireless and iPads and communication consultants and other trinkets adding up to $83K. And who voted for it? Nihart, Stone and Jaquith. Disappointing, but not surprising. The only surprise is that they didn't bury it somewhere out of public view.
$83K, does that number look familiar? That's the amount of city funding each year for the Resource Center and its vital safety-net programs for needy Pacificans. Council has threatened that funding repeatedly because they say the city has no money. Their words say broke but their deeds tell a different story.
No one votes but council. Staff wins no prizes, particularly Rhodes and Ritzma, but they don't vote. And we don't hire them, council does.
Electronic gadgets to solve their transparency problem and communication consultants to tell them how to gain the public's trust. That says a lot about these people and how they plan to serve the public.
The house cleaning needs to continue at every opportunity. And the replacements need to know they answer to and serve the public.
"...government transparency includes wireless; study, analyze and develop a cost allocation plan (consultant); streamline city planning, building and development process; provide clear communication to our community (consultant); develop an economic plan (consultant)."
What a funny set of goals. Transparency means a committment to open government, which all of these folks either don't want, or don't understand.
Clear communication may mean the best PR that money can buy. It hasn't worked in the past but hell, maybe I can get elected again!
Oh yes, Lionel,
They need gadgets and more consultants to conduct honest, open government and to communicate with us. Think about what that really says about these people and how they operate. I doubt their oath of office instructed them to hire a consultant to improve their honest, open communication with the public whom they have sworn to serve.
Ironic, but in this bonehead move to improve their communication and transparency, Nihart and Stone and the temporary Ms.Jaquith have very clearly communicated some very troubling attititudes. As if this town doesn't have enough problems.
