President of an anti-tax voter association doesn't vote

And does this San Jose based water company CEO also run his business by default and "philosophical" excuse rationalization?

Silicon Valley Mercury News/no named author, 9/2/12.  "Internal Affairs:  Anti-tax leader has never voted, but he wants you to."

We hope your voice matters in America

"John Roeder, president of the Silicon Valley Taxpayers' Association, which is fighting two tax measures on the Nov. 6 ballot, wants voters to do what he says, not what he does. In his 54 years, Roeder has never voted in a local, state or federal election, or even registered to vote.

Roeder, who in his day job commands the Great Oaks Water company, which supplies water to 100,000 San Jose residents, told us that at first it was just about avoiding jury summonses. But it's become "a philosophical thing."
And when you don't vote, that might count too.

"I prefer not to be in a position to be blamed for what politicians end up doing in the future," Roeder said, "and if you don't vote for anybody, you will end up not voting for the wrong side."  While he admits some might see his nonvoting as ironic, Roeder said he's "never seen an election where my one vote would have made any difference."

So how does Roeder square his nonvoting with his urging that others take the trouble to vote down Measure A, Santa Clara County's one-eighth-cent sales tax, and Measure B, the Santa Clara Valley Water District's parcel-tax extension?  "Representing taxpayers," Roeder said, "is not really a prerequisite to vote."  Even so, the CEO said he's thinking about registering to vote in the Nov. 6 election. The Registrar of Voter's Office says he has until Monday, Oct. 22."

His vote has never counted. He is right about that.

The California Republican Party no longer exists. They have closed their doors. No money.

California is officially a ONE PARTY STATE. Sen. Leland Yee's wish has come true.

The Democrats rule California and have for the past 30 years. We can raise as many taxes as we want. The Socialist/Marxist Parties are in power. This is great news.

Kathy, don't you see how selfish you're being when you make the rest of us endure the wingnut express just because you insist on posting off-topic political garbage?

"... you insist on posting off-topic political garbage?" Anonymous 11:14 AM.

Yep, I'm "selfish". Everyone should vote, that makes for a healthy Democracy. On topic, that includes Pacificans.

Last election (Spring 2012), there were State/County/City ballot measures that were very close, and look several days to a few weeks to determine whether each passed or failed. And, remember the school tax vote in Pacifica a few years ago? As I recall, ultimately it won by single digit votes, maybe even one vote. (Non-partisan, 2/3rds vote required).

The California State pension bill passed Friday. (Again 2/3rds vote required: Democrats, Republicans and Independents).

Shall we only post self-indulged articles that you consider "on topic" Anonymous 11:14 AM? Posting your articles under your actual name (no anonymous name), is available. Follow the directions upper blog left. Staples logo said it: "that was easy!"

Kathy, must you respond to every lunatic, mental case, and wing nut?

Of course, I'm responding to YOU who singled me out twice. Think about it.

The article is both fair and ethical. Obviously you don't get it, but since you're anonymous talk without accountability is cheap.

Hey Anon 1114, If you don't like to see these kinds of threads than don't look. The more attention they get the more you'll see the.

"Everyone should vote"
Have you been reading the Republican misdirection playbook, Kathy? No one said that people shouldn't vote -- just that you should stay on topic. Please post your partisan nonsense at a more appropriate venue where you can argue with other extremists to your heart's content.

"Posting your articles under your actual name"
Again, you seem to be channeling Reince Priebus. No one is asking for more off-topic articles. We're begging for less of your inflammatory partisan political diatribes that consistently bring in other extremists who hijack the blog.

You know you have won an argument with a democrat is when they respond by calling you names and then ignore you. The truth hurts.

Anonymous said...

@1031 Probably not the reason people are ignoring you.

That's cause Ms. Julie of the Pacifica Love Boat, has to respond to every post.

While she is trying to respond to every post on the blog, she can not get anything done.

Funny. I don't feel like I am being ignored. Quite the opposite.

Democrats have lots of problems within their party. If the media would just report the truth imagine how the people would respond. Unfortunately, they choose to blindly follow to keep that goverment check coming.

If you don't agree with Romney, he will tie you to the roof of the car and take you for a ride.

Ur, I don't know Anonymous and Chief, it never occurred to me that the right and obligation of a citizen to vote would be "off topic" or "partisan nonsense." But then, it is for you.
