"Our economy is our recreation"

Enjoy the article from Coastsider 5/6/10, horseback riding through beautiful country is a great experience for the adults and children. This ride is from Moss Beach Ranch to Shamrock Ranch in Pacifica, and includes a potluck lunch at Shamrock Ranch. This was great fun and such a worthwhile adventure, but clearly not an economic plan for the city. Neither is hiking trails, biking, skate park, tending frogs and snakes, fishing from the pier, picnicking at the beach.
City council deemed "recreation" to be our city economic plan. Clearly recreation which does not produce much tax revenue is not an economic plan, so what were they really telling us, no economic plan except increasing taxes?

Fishing from the pier would produce some revenue if we had any businesses handy to the location for folks to wonder over too (hint hint Old WWTP)
True Sharon, if there was something civilized and fun there rather than a one square block OWWTP grounds including an white elephant moldy deteriorating building.
Can anyone tell me why we don't charge the fishermen at the pier? Almost all of them are from out of town and are extremely hostile to newcomers. They also hog all of the parking. Missed opportunities, thy name is Pacifica...
What is interesting is the claim that people are "moving to Pacifica" to enjoy its finer qualities, yet the population has decreased from 38,390 in 2000 (according to the US Census Data) to 37,739 as of July 2008 to 37,282 as of 2009. That's a net decrease of 1,108 people or a population shift of -3%. Jobs have decreased by about the same amount, data will probably be worse as of 2010.
And still, traffic has gotten worse.
There is no evidence to indicate the "business" model proposed and implemented by this current City Council has been anything but an abject failure. As indicated by the OCE lawsuit for the sewer spill, and confirmed by the RWQCB report, their upside down vision and lack of focus on real city infrastructure issues has cost the city millions of dollars and contaminated the environment.
Still, they know how to give out those civic awards. Woop woop!
