Sue Digree, says council is an honest bunch!

4-0 Recology gets the price increase. This council never met a fee or tax increase they didn't like.

Only 200 something protest letters.

Woohoo, Tod Schlesinger is in rare form tonight and no one is safe! Watch your back Toddy!

Damn, why didn't Chris Porter run for council? Her common sense and plain talk is so refreshing.

Question, with all the complaining about the budget and spending nobody is screaming about the raise that will be given to the wastewater superintendent and the new position that they are asking for? Did they not get a county wide salary average 3 years ago that was up to 18 %? Did your sewer tax go up 16 % that year?

And now we have to pay for fines and repair our collections system or face more fines under the mandate. The city has asked all groups for give backs and no raises for the last 3 years, well almost all groups and they want more. I am sure the Finance Director will say that this is a separate Enterprise fund not tied to the General fund, and this is still tax money, and tax payers have no control over this fund, it is solely up to the City.

The state of the art plant has seen an increase of over 70% on sewer tax increases since coming on line.

The actual sewer fee increase is well over 250% in just the last 10 years! take your bill from 2002 then from 2012. Subtract the difference, then divide the difference by the 2002 bill.

Next time I am going to hear state of the art, I am going to vomit. That is as bad as the people running for city council crying I love this city.

The state of the art plant was never built before. Pacifica was the test dummies. Pun Intended. The company quickly went bankrupt and the city has to go all the way to NY or NJ to have parts made for this plant.

I am so glad a couple brave people stopped the bio diesel plant cause this would have ended the same way. Badly for the city.

Top 10 reasons why Pete Degarnatt missed the city council meeting last night

10. He forgot to set the alarm clock, his afternoon nap is important

9. Daylight savings time really throws him off, he is in bed before the street lights come on

8. That mean lady Mary Ann, talks too much and asks too many questions

7. Mary Ann is too close to Mary Jane and he gets confused

6. That young guy with the glasses, who is he?

5. 5 hour energy only lasts for about 5 hours?

4. Too much turkey over the long weekend.

3. Says he is getting old, and he just "forgot"

2. After hearing from another council member, that meetings are not important he said screw it and stayed home.

And the #1 reason why Sneaky Pete Dejarnatt, missed the council meeting is,

1. John Curtis, didn't call him and tell him what to say.

The system of approving garbage rate hikes needs to be changed. It is ridiculous to require 50% of rate payers to go out of their way and write a letter protesting a raise. How is this even legal?

does anyone you know WANT to pay more? Of course most people oppose the fee increase, the city just makes it too difficult and confusing for busy people to voice their opinion. A better way would to include a postage paid postcard in the Recology bill with a simple yes or no question. As it stands many people have no idea they can even protest increases let alone who to send it to.

And why should individual citizens have to pay over $5000 out of their own pockets to stop a rate increase? That's how much postage would be required. Recology should foot the bill.

Agreed Hutch. The current system is rigged in favor of the garbage company at the expense of the public. The Constitution has protections against this sort of quasi regality. Somewhere between the 14 to 16th Amendment this practice of rate increases is actionable.

Rate increases must become subject to a vote of the people, not an obscured protest. This must also hold true for sewer rates.

PACIFICA -- A deliveryman has filed a lawsuit against the Pacifica School District that accuses it of knowingly serving expired food to pupils and of retaliating against him after he blew the whistle about the situation.

Joseph McCarthy, 55, claims the district, through a food-service contractor, has served pasta and frozen turkey that were past their expiration dates and that it failed to properly refrigerate some other food items served to children. After he raised these and other concerns, McCarthy was disciplined by district supervisors and subjected to age discrimination, according to the suit.

District Superintendent Wendy Turkloff said Monday she was aware of the lawsuit, filed Nov. 21 in San Mateo County Superior Court, but could not comment on it. The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive damages.

"Parents need to know what Pacifica is feeding its children," McCarthy said in a statement. "Something has to change."

McCarthy has worked for the district since 1994, the complaint states. His job includes ferrying food from a storage area to school cafeterias. He claims his performance reviews were stellar until he aired his concerns in 2011.

After that, he was reprimanded for criticizing the district's food service and ridiculed by a supervisor as "senile," according to the complaint, which also asserts some of McCarthy's duties were stripped away and his personnel files were shared with co-workers in violation of California

I've consulted my consultant and we agree that last night's council performance re the garbage rate increase was fine, fine theatre. First rate performances by all. Stellar. Who can forget the earnest (and endless) questioning predictably staged by Ms. Nihart, or the steadfast support of trusty sidekicks Jaquith and Digre. And Len Stone, in a very understated performance, what a rock he was! And that empty chair? How poignant. Trying to explain the unexplainable, council stayed on script, treating the lowly subject of a yet another garbage rate increase as if it was a ruling handed down by God himself instead of living proof of a really really bad decision made by council at the continuing expense of the public. Now, that's acting. Honorable mention to the rest of the troup...Terese, Tod, and others. Goodness, they played their roles as if they were actually being ripped off. A fine evening of local theatre.

Campbell fixed the school board. That is why everyone bailed.

"I think city council is doing a great job and we need the money" - every nobie NIMBY who supported the previous city council whenever they raised sewer or garbage rates
