The Mayor did not return this citizen's phone call

We are all aware that Maria Marlies Jansen, a Pacifica woman has been missing for one month (7/26/12). And searches have brought-up nothing. Her husband, Christian also left a voice message for the Mayor asking for further assistance, but there was no call back. What happened?

Marlies Jansen
Pacifica Tribune, letters to the editor, 8/21/12.  "Missing Marlies" by Christian Jansen

"Editor: Marlies, the love of my life for 56 years, is still missing.
The Mayor didn't return this call?

I would like to thank Jane Northrop of the Pacifica Tribune for printing the story and posting Marlies' picture so that the residents of Pacifica may be aware of her disappearance and with that be helpful in finding Marlies.

I would also like to thank the Pacifica Police Department, the San Mateo County Sheriff Department and all the volunteers for their assistance in the intense search during the crucial first five days of Marlies' disappearance. Also, a special thank you to my friends the Bode and Binsfeld families and to my friend Bill for their search efforts on Saturday, August 4.

As a resident of Pacifica since 1965, and in desperation, shortly after Marlies went missing, I called City Hall the Mayors office and left a message to see if they could somehow assist in the search. Regretfully, my call to this day has not been returned or even acknowledged. It is my hope that this letter will be a reminder that Marlies is still missing and that somehow it may lead to Marlies' return. A website (Marliesjansen.com) has been created to post any new information. Thank you kindly."

Palo Alto Daily News/Staff, 8/24/12. "$10,000 reward for info that helps find missing 76-year-old Pacifica woman."

"The husband of a 76-year-old Pacifica woman who has been missing for almost a month is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to finding her.

Christian Jensen has told Pacifica police that on July 26 his wife, Maria "Marlies" Jansen, was discovered missing from her residence on Park Pacifica Avenue. He described her as an avid walker who regularly takes the trails at San Pedro Valley Park.

"Despite an exhaustive search of the areas she is known to frequent, she has not yet been located," Christian Jensen said in a flier that offers the $10,000 reward. She is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 100 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was possibly wearing yellow gardening shoes."

To be fair, did the mayor have someone follow-up? Did anyone from city hall call this man? With all the saccharine posing they do about how the city cares, have any of them noticed this tragedy? Done anything? If not, shame on you, and try to fight that urge to grandstand now.

Seriously I know Sneaky Pete does not use the internets so I wonder who shilled for him this time??

Anonymous said...

Oh calm yourself anon, the point was certainly not to excuse the Mayor if he failed to return the call or have it returned, but to also point out that the residents of this town are represented by 5 elected officials. This is not an everyday thing in Pacifica and a call from any one of them would have been nice for the family and really does seem to fall within the job description.

This is horrible but par for Dejarnett. Like Vreeland he thinks responding to Pacificans is secondary to collecting a paycheck.

I feel so bad for this man and I hope he fiinds his wife soon.

You council shills will still shills after bankruptcy.

Sneaky Pete, doesn't answer to anyone but his thief buddy John Curtis

Anonymous said...

@ Anon 514, but Pete is the Mayor and that is who the man left a message for. This shows Dejarnett's disinterest in doing anything to help this town. All he cares about is his pension.

We need to not elect any more of these "progressives"

in office too long they all forget

who they work for and what the job

is or where those checks and

benefits come from

Anonymous said...

Pete has proven his disinterest in the matter, no early response and no response even after a phone call. No surprise there. Pete has left the building.

And the rest of that crackerjack team of public servants? Shake a camera at them and they'll perk right up!

Anonymous said...

Really? You got that kind of trouble and you want a phone call from Kool and the Gang? No, you really don't. Reach up and out of Pacifica asap. Call Jackie.

The day of the ECCO-NYMBY is past and Sneaky Pete knows it. Now he will F-up our City as much as he can until his term is up, then collect his pension. We will survive though.

Anonymous said...

But remember Sneaky Pete, takes his job as Mayor very seriously.

Seriously Sneaky Pete, just go away. Crawl back into the musty dark mold filled hole you came out of.

I'm no fan of Pete, and I feel for the family, but this is a police matter. Blaming Pete for things that aren't his responsibility distracts from all the genuine harm he causes the city.

Anon 1013 said: "Blaming Pete for things that aren't his responsibility"

Pete had a Civic responsibility as an elected official and the mayor to return a phone call from a highly distressed citizen.

And he had a moral responsibility to show some compassion for a human being in desperate need of help.

Please let's not elect any more of these "compassionate" progressives in November.

Dejarnetts sleaze factor just jumped by 50%

Hutch

We are in scary times. I agree with you!

Steve Sinai said...

It was rude for the Pete not to return the call, but people are losing their heads by characterizing him as the worst person in the world.

Hutch said...

Who said worst in the world Steve? On City Council? That's debatable.

I would say it was much much worst than just being "rude". Neglect of duty is more like it.

Anonymous said...

Rude? Not holding a door is rude. Farting in an elevator is rude. The mayor ignoring a citizen who's wife is missing is contemptible.

Anonymous said...

Shilling for Pete and the city council does nothing to "fix Pacifica"

It defeats the purpose!

Oh wait I think annon 4:05 might be the funny man!

Steve Sinai said...

Hutch, I said people were "characterizing" Pete as the worst person in the world. I wasn't claiming to quote anybody.

What I'm seeing here is a thoughtless feeding frenzy. Just as a school of sharks go crazy when they sense a drop of blood, people here stop thinking and go crazy when they find anything to criticize DeJarnatt about.

Anyway, Pete's not exactly the warm and fuzzy type, so I don't think he would have been very good if he had tried to offer words of comfort.

Hutch said...

I don't see it Steve. Shark attack? I don't know Pete personally and I'm sure he's a great guy. But this board is for open discussion. Being a politician Mr Dejarnett is a legitimate target of criticism. I saw no personal attacks on him here so I don't know what you're talking about when you say people are characterizing him as the worst person on the planet. We are just frustrated with years of what we perceive as ineffective and down right harmful decisions by Mr Dejarnett. This ignored call is just another example of indifferent behaviour, and when taken in with everything else is further proof of bad leadership.

Anonymous said...

"I saw no personal attacks on him here" - hahahahaha

Anonymous said...

Not personal? Say 'Pete' and somebody on here goes nuts! Completely irrational and absolutely nuts. That kind of frenzy hardly creates confidence in that person's judgement or their conclusions about Pete or other things. It's kinda sick and reasonable people can easily spot that and they will reject it. Just saying...

Hutch said...

@ Anon 330: You don't know the difference between a personal attack and criticizing a public official about their sub par performance.

Anonymous said...

I'm surprised no one called. True, it's a police matter and lines shouldn't be crossed, but that usually doesn't keep local politicians away. If not out of genuine concern, then at least to avoid being called indifferent or out of touch. Not shilling for any of them, just saying.

Anonymous said...

Hutch@439, Neither do you.

Hutch said...

Anyone please site one "personal attack" here against Pete Dejarnett. Sure the "sneaky Pete" guy is on the line, but he's still referring to Pete's performance in office.

Otherwise stfu.

Hopefully Pete will be enjoying his pension in prison.

I would consider the following to be examples personal attacks -

"Dejarnetts sleaze factor just jumped by 50%"

"Seriously Sneaky Pete, just go away. Crawl back into the musty dark mold filled hole you came out of."

Politicians are fair game, so I'm not worried about the above. It's the angry, thoughtless, Pavlovian response to Pete's name that I find distasteful. It's something I'd expect from a Tea Party or Occupy website.

Anonymous said...

hey Sinai, schizophrenic much? You rail against the NIMBY's then you defend Dejarnett? People here were only criticizing a NIMBY politicians actions not his personal life.

Anonymous said...

Amen. Lynch mob mentality.

Hutch said...

I still don't see a personal attack here. You need to separate personal and public life.

Did anyone here do the following? No.

Wikipedia What is considered to be a personal attack?

Racial, sexist, homophobic, ageist, religious, political, ethnic, sexual, or other epithets (such as against people with disabilities) directed against another contributor. Disagreement over what constitutes a religion, race, sexual orientation, or ethnicity is not a legitimate excuse.
Using someone's affiliations as an ad hominem means of dismissing or discrediting their views—regardless of whether said affiliations are mainstream. An example could be "you're a train spotter so what would you know about fashion?" Note that although pointing out an editor's relevant conflict of interest and its relevance to the discussion at hand is not considered a personal attack, speculating on the real-life identity of another editor may constitute outing, which is a serious offense.
Linking to external attacks, harassment, or other material, for the purpose of attacking another editor.
Comparing editors to Nazis, dictators, or other infamous persons. (See also Godwin's law.)
Accusations about personal behavior that lack evidence. Serious accusations require serious evidence. Evidence often takes the form of diffs and links presented on wiki.
Threats,

I disagree with almost everything Pete has done, but many of the people who want to criticize everything attached to his name are showing themselves as extremists who are just as destructive as he is. As such, their opinions should be disregarded as no better than Nancy/Ian/Maybury/Hallman/Bray/etc on the left and the tea baggers on the right.

I never feel more vindicated on my opinion of myself as a GDI as I am when I disagree with all the extremists.

Anonymous said...

Extremism clouds the issues. That's why it's always been a handy and versatile tool for revolution and regime change. Nothing so calculated here...this extremism is organic. Lot of angry people on here with valid complaints but they take things too far. Their rage makes people uncomfortable. At the risk of starting another shitstorm, this kind of extremism just feels personal and unhinged--just like much of the latest recall effort. For most people it's not in any way persuasive, it's repugnant. It's embarassing.

Anonymous said...

@713

GDI, uh, GastroDisruptiveInfluence?

Anonymous said...

Precisely. The recall is a perfect example of people who for the most part agree with me policy-wise, but who also cause me to cringe in embarrassment.

Anonymous said...

@828 Yes! Wouldn't have them in my home or around my pets but there are ideas on which we agree.

Hutch said...

The recall attempt allowed backers to educate thousands of voters, many had no idea we were facing a financial crisis. So I would say it was a success. Is that radical?

Anonymous 8:04 PM, interesting hit on people who post comments on this blog, as well as the citizens who advocated for the justifiable recall of city council members Vreeland, DeJarnatt, Digre. Yep, you've managed to lump a whole lot of people together into an "extreme" discredited waste bin, but NO SALE.

The insidious, negative words you used with regard to those who have posted comments here include: "extremism, "clouded" (as in causing confusion), "angry", "taking things too far", "rage". (how about that one). Then, "organic" (as in inherent, bad seed or DNA) to these blog commenters. These same commenters "make PEOPLE (you and Anon 8:28PM I guess) "uncomfortable". And these commenters (allegedly considered NON PEOPLE) are "unhinged", "repugnant". That is "embarrassing" (why), and might cause a "shit storm" (probably caused by you).

Your seemingly reasonable commentary is loaded with unfair, negative words, and should be recognized as such. Using your words, what you say is "IN NO WAY PERSUASIVE." Not even nice try, dirty commentary.
