Chevron Richmond refinery telephone-alert system was not fast enough

It did seem that the Pacifica phone alert system worked very well when the older Park Pacifica resident was missing recently.

San Francisco Chronicle/Demian Bulwa, 8/21/12. "New vendor sought after refinery fire fumble."

Hello, fire at Chevron. Find shelter in a library?
Air Alert!  How will they know without a phone call?
"Contra Costa County officials said Tuesday they are seeking to replace the telephone-alert firm that struggled to notify residents about the smoky fire at Chevron's Richmond refinery, but cautioned that competitors may not be able to do much better.

It took more than three hours for 18,000 people near the refinery to get calls advising them to shelter in place after the Aug. 6 fire erupted, said Katherine Hern, who manages a county warning system that includes sirens and other alerts.

The telephone system "did not perform to our expectations," Hern told the county's Board of Supervisors.. After the meeting, she said she plans to meet with another vendor Wednesday."  Read Article.

Like this never happened before. Might have been confused about open/close the windows but thousands knew enough to see a doc so their insurance claim would fly.

Maybe Chevron would like to build a little mini-refinery in the quarry. It already smells funny. Oops, what was I thinking? We already tried that didn't we?

Chevron wanted to build the plant at the quarry but the city went with Jimmy v and Nancy hall and whole energy. Think how bad they could have blown things up.

Btw Chevron build the plant in millbrae.

Speaking of disasters, where are Jimmy and Nancy?

Mr Sinai is the webmaster. How about that fact be respected?

But Kathy posts 99% of the articles here along with all the funny pictures. It must take a lot of time. If anyone is actually the "master" of this site it has been her.

True, the blog does take-up a lot of time, and your "article master" comment is appreciated. Generally I care about article content, how the article is viewed, and the relationship of the picture to the article.

Steve handles technical blog issues, sets policy, and is the ultimate decider (that includes review of posted comments daily). He posts blogger articles when text is submitted in email form to Fix Pacifica. The article must be ready to post. Include a picture if desired.

We coordinate labor division, with some overlap and substitution when needed. FMV (as a volunteer, part time project), it takes at least two people to run the blog. But there is no competition.

Ms. Meeh and Mr. Sinai, You are both to be commended for providing this community forum. It can't be easy and it is time consuming. Probably pretty thankless, too. So, thank you from one of the anonymi
