Mercury News/Jane Northrop/Special to the Pacifica Tribune 6/4/13, updated 8/12/16, "Utility undergrounding begins on Palmetto Avenue." The undergrounding of the utilities officially began with the unveiling of a sign at Brighton Park that announced work will commence on this first portion of the new streetscape along Palmetto Avenue. At the ceremony that kicked off the work, city personnel, City Council, and city business leaders joined representatives from PG&E to commemorate this milestone in what will eventually be a whole new look for Palmetto Avenue. The area will be tied together with attractive landscaping, including planters and street trees, light poles, pedestrian friendly benches, parking enclosures and other details that will identify Palmetto as an historic area and an inviting “Main Street” shopping district. 'We have been working on this since the 1990s,' said Pacifica Mayor Len Stone. 'And now, in a couple years, we are going to have a whole new Palmetto.' ” Note the photograph from the article was taken by Jane Northrop.
