"Prominent conservatives led by Erick Erickson on Thursday called for a unity ticket and a convention fight to stop Republican front-runner Donald Trump, a sign of the growing desperation in the party establishment to find an alternative to the billionaire businessman.

'If that unity ticket is unable to get 1,237 delegates prior to the convention, we recognize that it took Abraham Lincoln three ballots at the Republican convention in 1860 to become the party's nominee and if it is good enough for Lincoln, that process should be good enough for all the candidates without threats of riots,' Erickson wrote in a statement after conservatives gathered in Washington to discuss ways to thwart Trump's march to the nomination.

That includes at least $55,000 to security firms and local police departments since Trump asked for Secret Service protection. Stop Trump? Why would we ever want to do that?

Trump is one of the greatest real estate minds the United States has ever seen.

He created more jobs in a year than Obama did in eight.

He's going to close our borders to nimby newbies, make trade with China fair and make our country great again.

Anonymous said...

Greatest real estate mind ever? Maybe.
Good president for these United States? I don't think so.
Who's vice president? Palin

I've got no problem with Trump. He tells it like it is and is going to build a wall that keeps us and our children safe. You ever see what percent of your taxes go towards fighting crime from Mexico?

Anonymous said...

Careful what you wish for cowboy. Are you fighting age?
If not, hope you have kids who are. We're gonna need them in the wars he starts.

Not 403, but look at how many wars Obama started in Office, 510

Look how many countries Obama with Billary as Secretary of State handed over to the Muslim Brotherhood in the last eight years.

Trump will stop Muslim Immigration to the US.
Trump will make us strong again.
Trump knows what to do to protect property rights.

I agree with a lot of what Trump says.
Don't think of him as a Republican.
Think of him as a Democrat that actually does what he says he will.

Steve Sinai said...

How many wars did Obama start while in office?

We probably bombed seven different countries under Obama that we're aware of.

Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Syria.

I think it's quite clear that Trump will be our next President. I'm hoping he'll shut down the border for good and make Pacifica and America like it was thirty years ago.

Trump is a TV game show host. He's a con man who makes funny money off other people's misfortune and stupidity. America is FULL of very stupid people which is why this joker is in the headlines. He's a clown, not my president, regardless of what party he claims to represent. You Trumpsters are just as stupid as the faux-enviros who believe "Our Environment is Our Economy".

He did a pretty good job keeping Iraq and Afghanistan going.

Then he didn't listen to the military leaders to leave troops in Iraq.

7:35 p.m. Obama was a senator for six months before he ran for President, and look how that turned out. Disaster.

7:36 p.m. If you think Clinton is getting the free media ride Obama got you're dreaming.

7:36 p.m. the 2nd Don't pretend Obama didn't push Chrysler and Chevy through bankruptcy. Bankruptcy exists to preserve jobs. Trump created more jobs than all the othercandidates combined this season.

I like Trump, he's smart, he's no bs and he'll be our next president.

Think how crazy all you Nimby Demoweasels would be going if Barack Hussein Obama had been treated the way Trump has.

If the last contender, whether Al Gore or John Edwards, had came out and Mitt Romney'd him?

You'd be apoplectic with accusations of racism and false global warming conspiracies.

Trump is winning. He's winning fair and square.
If Hillary is such a great candidate ,why are you all so worried?

Let Trump run. I think he will bring prosperity and growth to Pacifica.

150, 158 well I'm no NIMBY, but those of us with moderate views, and relatively sophisticated brains, easily recognize the extreme, unfair, unhinged commentary that is coming from your Presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
Hopefully the Republican political organization will find a way to "swift boat" Donald Trump, whatever it cost them-- the "63 million" you've imagined sounds good.

Anonymous said...

Kathy, can we please have some specific examples (by way of quotes) of the "extreme, unfair, unhinged commentary" coming from Trump? Perhaps they seem that way because that's how you choose to interpret them. I could certainly take some of Obama's comments and make an excellent case for them to be interpreted as hate speech. We get it. You don't like Trump. You don't like any Republican. In fact, with respect to national politics, you don't like anyone to the right of Lenin.

Kathy Meeh said...

^^^ 418 example, Donald Trump candidate follower: big bully, BS comment, no name.

The latest "hate" comment from Donald Trump was if he didn't get the nomination, there would be "riots in the streets". (Trump is savvy enough to know he is making an "incitement to riot" suggestion). A minor example of how that works was his comment to hit a protestor in the mouth.
Yeah, Trump is a real piece of work, and so was your idiotic personal attack.

BTW who is buried "to the right" of Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924)? I don't know and don't care-- but, those may be dead people you seem to be obsessed with.
And, as for being a Republican in the current strange right-wing environment, that would be retro-- kind of like climbing into the predatory slime of prehumanity.

Trump plays the role of hate-monger like he was born to it. I don't believe he was, but he's got a good act. Like any good demagogue he taps into people's fears and biases, names the scapegoats, and stokes the fires. Even if we accept that much of his appeal is simply that he's not PC, if he's elected do you think he'll drop the act? Do you think he'll be allowed to drop it? Those rabid Trump supporters aren't acting.

857, President Obama used an old, known expression in a totally different context.

Donald Trump understands (through his business dealings, securities and legal understanding) what he (Trump) is doing through repeated suggestions of hatred, violence and scapegoating. And Trump's twisted rhetoric is a divisive pattern.
Trump's behavior is erratic. (Bernie Sanders may be correct in his view that Trump may even be a psychopath.

851 has stated important core issues and concerns about Donald Trump. Taking this further, Trump may not need to be influenced, he seems quite capable of advancing multiple forms of manipulated "evil" all on this own. As 851 says, "never Trump".

"Broadcast advertising dollars aimed at toppling GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has soared 900 percent since his first primary victory in New Hampshire - a total of more than $63 million -- according to an ABC News analysis of CMAG/Kantar Media data.
The total haul aimed at blocking the real estate mogul is now three times as much as what Trump has spent on his whole campaign and twice as much as the behemoth super PAC Right to Rise spent during its tenure supporting Jeb Bush."

Cynically aware of who he appeals to, Trump strategically embraces the Second Amendment and claims to revere the Constitution. Odd that he's not so happy with the First Amendment. You know, the one that protects freedom of the press. A free press is essential to democracy. First move by oppressive regimes is control of the press. Trump has already said he'd push for changing the laws that protect our free press. He doesn't like what the media writes and says about him and what they ask him. Should we fear an oppressive ideology with Trump? Nah, it's just his massive ego. Relax. Laugh at him. 201, wow, answered your own question... "he (Donald Trump) is anti immigration", but that's just one negative character flaw.
104, think of all those "good" jobs available when our "immigrants" (without official papers) are all deported.

Remember Donald Trump pushed the birther campaign claiming President Obama (born in Hawaii) was not born in the USA.
But with a potential Trump presidency, given his current hate verbiage laced with positive comments, Trump law will likely be efficient followed by oops.

Chris 315, true, but Obama's birth certificate was certified from the State of Hawaii. And Donald Trump (through his staff research) knew that.

But "does truth really matter" when Donald Trump and others were having fun?
What was that all about anyhow? And would a sincere, fact based, rational person without twisted motive continue such mythology?
(Oh, but versions of such deceitful promotion could happen anywhere, even within a city very nearby).

PS: a news update has been added to the article. And, 318 your sentiments seem just about perfect!

Anonymous said...

C'mon Chris Porter, Trump never said Obama was born in Kenya.
You made that up, period.

Kathy (simple google search) Meeh said...

803, Chris Porter is correct. Donald Trump said President Obama was born in Kenya. After all, Trump (or his staff) may have read that on a right-wing conspiracy website, didn't bother to reason the issue (or hand it to one of his attorneys to research). Rather, Trump chose to use the rumor for his own deceitful purpose, over and over.

The following is an article from Politifact/Robert Farley, 4.7/11, "Donald Trump says President Obama's grandmother caught on tape saying she witnessed his birth in Kenya."
.... "Trump, who is considering a run for president, said in a telephone interview on the program that he would not back off the issue, and that over the last few weeks he has only become more skeptical that Obama was born in the U.S. (His campaign released a Certification of Live Birth, which Hawaii officials say is an official birth certificate and sufficient to prove he was born in Honolulu. Trump and others have said that is not sufficient and that they still have doubts. We've gone over this ground repeatedly at PolitiFact.)
.... This is actually an old claim that has been bouncing around the Internet for years. But keeping up with the latest birther claims is often like playing Whac-A-Mole, and we never got around to this one. So here we go.
The claim is based on an Oct. 16, 2008, telephone call between Bishop Ron McRae of the Anabaptist Churches of North America and Sarah Obama of Kenya, Barack Obama's elderly step-grandmother. The interview is complicated by the addition of at least one translator, because Sarah Obama, then 86, spoke Swahili. ..."

803, YOU too could do a simple internet search-- or better, ask 318 for advisement.

3. Therefore, Trump may be "Latino" to you.
4. I'm saying then let's deport one (1) German/Scottish "Latino": Donald Trump.
5. That is the same as my opinion at 717.
Then at 736,
6. You said minorities can't be raciest. What, that's a joke? Of course minorities can and may be raciest. Apparently you are, but no worries, racism is a human condition that deselects no one individual or group without thoughtful consideration.
7. And unless you know your genetic DNA profile, you may be an assortment of many ethnic types, including a wide range of "White people". Yikes!
Finally at 735,
8. You said "get them out of Pacifica"? Get who out of Pacifica? Latinos, no! Others, no! Got to choose one? Okay, maybe a few NIMBIES.

744, good point. I too thought the people of this country would be less susceptible to such autocratic political manipulation.

Trump's a realist, but in philosophical terms he's what's called a pessimist... he thinks white people's consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. That they became too self-aware. Nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself creatures that should not exist by natural law, things that labor under the illusion of having a self, that accretion of sensory experience and feelings, programmed with total assurance they are each unbiased, when in fact they are all racists.

Honorable thing for our white people to do would be to deny their programming. Stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction - one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.

Hi Kathy, "California Territory" is an invention of Spanish Empire. Likewise, Mexico.
You see, there were native people here in perfect harmony with the land before the Europeans arrived.
There is clear and documented evidence of European rape of Americas for the past 400 yrs. Europeans cannot save America. And they certainly cannot make America great again having destroyed what was once already great. Europeans can however be kind enough to evacuate and leave America with their kit and kin. I am fairly sure Americans are incapable of doing something as basic as recognizing their overstay and being the good guest.

Kathy, what's your take on why Trump has such strong Jewish support?

Kathy Meeh said...

950, try another language and country-- you know, a link to American voters.
(Besides, the KKK guys in white sheets probably like Trump best).

942, native people lived on this continent in perfect harmony before the Europeans arrived? No, but try history.
Far enough back the overstay for natives might be Asia. Good luck!

929, the evolutionary trace back to racism is likely discernment, tribal protection, then cultural experience, isolation, neighborhoods, various forms of tradition and mythology.
60 years ago the world population was about 3.5 billion people, now it is about 7.4 billion. Worldwide birth control might help the people and the planet.

Anonymous said...

Kathy, are you implying that it is ok to replace natives by force or other means by technologically or numerically superior numbers?
Perhaps then, the economic migration of mexican farm workers and other migrants is entirely justified. In closing, I guess per your logic "fuck europeans and whities" should be acceptable. Good to know and got it!

Anonymous said...

950 When Trump fields questions about Israel and American support of Israel, he often mentions his daughter and her conversion to Judaism prior to marriage. She and her husband have several children. If Trump has any real knowledge of complex Mid-east diplomacy, strategic and historical alliances, he's keeping it well hidden. However, Jewish grandchildren come in handy. Trump knows which cards to play for which audience. That, he's good at.

Steve Sinai said...

"Kathy, what's your take on why Trump has such strong Jewish support? A plurality of Jews believe he is the best candidate to represent them."

I'm Jewish and find that very hard to believe. Jewish Democrats outnumber Jewish Republicans by 2-1. Plus, most American Jews don't go for the ethnic or religious stereotyping that Trump engages in.

Kathy Meeh said...

1050, what? The Mexican-American wars ended about 160 years ago? Isn't it about time to deal with the good fortune of your modern life today.
At the same time, some elements of these old wars continue in sentiment, as viewed in the US southern states hangover from the American Civil War.
And, that focused angst of territory gone is not really different from the some of the older wars in Europe, and elsewhere.

What you think I said is apparently your own extended mindset, not what I said.
Humans have migrated all over the world, including the ancient world when "natives" settled in the Americas. But, various tribes did not live in "perfect harmony" (after all they were only human). Later in Mexico, the Spaniards were not such "nice guys" either.

From your expletive commentary, I don't know what you're saying about the "economic migration of Mexican farm workers" or "European and Whites."
But, is it true that you plan to vote for Double-White Donald Trump, who is intent on building a "big, beautiful wall" between the USA and Mexico? Trump plans to deport ALL Mexicans who do not have immigration papers. And bonus: the Republican congress is against providing "green card" immigrants a path to citizenship.

On a personal note, much of the semi-skilled, and skilled trades work I'm aware of is done by Hispanics (many from Mexico). FMV, these soft spoken, good, hard working people deserve to be treated fairly through easily accessible immigration paperwork, and a path to citizenship.
The farm workers would probably not be here if they could survive financially in Mexico, but conditions should be better for them.

Possibly unlike you, I would never consider voting for Donald Trump or any Republican who would further complicate the lives of these immigrants (with or without papers). The immigration/deportation "live in fear" cycle is a too old government conundrum that needs to get fixed.

But look around, we are fortunate our Bay Area is a mixture of people from all over the world. The Hispanic population is growing and gaining leadership (especially in Southern California). Mexicans are getting back more of their share of California. And mostly they vote for Democrats.

Sinai, I heard the complete opposite, In fact very influential Jewish Rabbi's have said not to vote for Trump.

The Jewish people are mostly very very rich, and the very very rich don't like paying high taxes. I would think they were afraid of anyone who wants to raise taxes?

Bernie Saunders is Jewish why didn't he get the Jewish support.

I think it goes along with there views about Israel.

Mexico doesn't send us the brightest and smartest. You never see Mexican Doctor's Lawyers or Business People coming across the border. These are the poorest of the poor. These are the people Mexico doesn't really want, so they let them cross over here. Then the US taxpayers support them.

Don't get me wrong I know a lot of hard working Mexican Immigrants who came over here with nothing and worked there asses off and are doing very well.?

Like John McCain said, Trump is waking up the crazy's. I wonder if Trump picks Palin for his VP?

310 Chris, Trump didn't say that but he implied it was accurate.

755 Politico is talking about Israel, not the American vote

7:55AM: Oy vey, you labor under too many stereotypes. Most Jews are not very very rich, nor is Israel their number one concern, nor do they vote for a candidate just because the candidate is Jewish.

White people generally screw things up wherever they go. For all the enlightenment, civilization and technological superiority they so claim, they are also responsible for 1) largest and most violent wars humanity has ever witnessed
2) largest scale colonization along ethnic lines
3) largest scale financial manipulation and transfer of wealth ever in the history of world
4) largest scale destruction of ecology and species across the world
5) largest scale human genocides in the history of world

White people have expressed the worst aspects of human character in a manner that puts the worst non-white tyrants to have walked this planet to shame. And now they want to impose the monstrosity called "Trump" on the rest of us, after they've given us George W. Bush who destroyed Iraq and Afghanistan. And Obama who has destroyed Libya, Syria and helped Egypt revert back to militarism. Before that another loser named Bill Clinton who destroyed Yugoslavia and the Balkans. And before than another loser named George H.W. Bush who started the destruction of Iraq. And on and on ...

US is not a savior. And white people are not enlightened. Please just hurry up and remove yourself from this planet for the sake of future generations.

Woohoo Fix Pacifica you got a whole lotta crazy goin' on!

112, people, governments and institutions sometimes ".. screw things up", yet generally almost all do a lot of good; and, the cultural, social and economic trend over centuries (for all people) tends toward better human conditions and social "enlightenment".

You don't like the USA and the "white" Presidents Bush, OBAMA, and Clinton, maybe think about immigrating elsewhere. And in the meantime, consider calling 911, where your voice will be heard.

2:03, Fix Pacifica, are you channeling "Trump"? Because you are on point with the message. No room for dissent. While you are at it, are you going to ask "your people" to get me out of here too?

Hahahaha! Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Then you might just understand what makes Trump tick in this country.

Trump believes in everything I believe in.

"Unfortunately, rent control is a disaster for all but the privileged minority who are protected by it. As much as any other single factor, it is responsible for the desperate housing crisis that has plagued New York City for the past twenty years. Like a lot of failed government programs, rent control grew out of a decent idea that ended up backfiring.

What I underestimated was how much the tenants stood to lose. I soon came to understand a simple axiom: the lower the rent, the bigger the apartment, and the better the location, the harder people will fight to keep what they have. It’s no great hardship to consider moving if you’re living in a mediocre apartment in a marginal neighborhood. Likewise, if you’re paying market rent for a good apartment and you can find a comparable one at the same price, a financial settlement will often induce you to move. But at 100 Central Park South many tenants were fighting to keep the ultimate in New York real estate: beautiful apartments with high ceilings, fireplaces, great views, and an unbeatable location. With rent control and rent stabilization, these tenants were enjoying one of the great windfall subsidies in the free world: on the open market, their apartments would have rented for as much as ten times what they were paying. If I’d been a tenant at 100 Central Park South, I’d have led the fight against anyone who tried to get me to move."

112 You're too good for us. We'll only bring you down. Leave now. Plenty of time for deep-thinking and list making in your morally superior, simpler world. You'd love a local freighter up the Amazon, swinging in your hammock on a deck crowded with a hundred hammocks in tiers and yours mere inches above the dozens of loose chickens and pigs you're traveling with. 90 degrees and 100% humidity night and day. Unisex bucket bathrooms and plenty of them. Revel in the humility and the humanity. Just be back in time for your regular teeth-whitening, laser peels and a good colonic cleanse, ok?

Awww rent control. Yeah, Trump understands greed. He can appreciate it wherever he sees it. In fact, he believes greed is good, sehr gut! Has that gone from being a character and biblical flaw to being a quality we want in our president? And he's so proud of his greed!

The German view of Donald Trump. "A recent poll found that 83% of Germans had a negative opinion of Trump and that 79% said it would be bad for Germany if he became president. ... The same poll found that a large majority of Germans would prefer to see Democrat Hillary Clinton — widely viewed here as a steady hand — as the next president.
In a country with a deep aversion to building walls (which recall the walls dividing the country during the Cold War) or making aggressive statements toward other countries (which recall the Nazi past), many townspeople expressed anxiety in interviews about Trump's campaign."
Los Angeles Times/Erik Kirschbaum, 3/21/16, "What do residents of Trump's ancestral village in Germany think of him? Not so nice."

Good point, Kathy. Trump's paternal grandparents, original name Drumpf, immigrated to the US. His mother was born in Scotland. Don't miss the documentary "You've Been Trumped" for a look at how Trump behaved in Scotland. Bit of a bully in his business dealings. Ran into an unimpressed Scottish farmer who had no use for the Art of the Deal or Donald Trump. How Trump reacted to that speaks volumes about Trump's flawed character. Not presidential--at least not for America.

505 Very Trumpy of you! All wrong, but very Trumpy. Now careful you don't spin yourself into a sharp point.

Anonymous said...

505 May be joking, but stopping Rent Control will absolutely be the biggest issue in the November Race.

You may laugh at Trump, but he has been a tireless defender of property rights for decades. He knows that Rent Control hurts poor minorities the most, and he may even block it at the federal level.

I'm tired of politicians smiling at you with veneered yellow teeth as they stab you in the back.

Trump says what he thinks and does what he says he does.

I trust what Trump is saying. I trust what Sanders is saying.
I don't trust what Hillary is saying.

Trump is against Rent Control. Sanders is for Rent Control.

I'm voting for Trump.

903 Yeah, sure, rent control, whatev. But first he has to nuke Utah for slut-shaming his wife with nude photos. I don't think it was the Dems that did it. 49 states...

Anonymous said...

10:43p.m. As a woman I find your comment misogynistic and offensive.

Your parents were nude when they conceived you, your mother gave birth to you nude, you were nude at the time, and there is nothing about the female body that is 'slutty' as you so idiotically put it.

Dinosaurs like you should be castrated without anesthesia so you can never have daughters.

Obama and Hillary would not answer the phone. Donald Trump answered and gave a response to the three muslim suicide bombers who killed 31 people yesterday in Brussels, Belgium. That says it all.

Anonymous said...

Trump has been a lifelong opponent of rent control.

That's good enough for me. I like Bernie but he is on record as having voted in favor of rent control etc three different times in his career, and all those promises will have to come out of our back pockets.

Socialism is great until you run out of other people's money.

932, after the first 5x, think we got you're supporting a USA President who is against rent control in New York, and locally-- for you, it's a #1 national agenda item.

930, Donald Trump answered his phone, did he also put out a tweet? Did he say, "wall-off the USA, and deport 'those' people"?
Meantime, the Hillary Clinton statement I heard on CNN or MSNBC (flipping between the two) about an 1 1/2 hours ago was informed, inclusive, unified and comprehensive.

1021 if so, Rip-trollers again prove they understand the manipulations of extreme and simplistic (from a spectrum of disingenuous tricks that have worked for them in this City for years).

Rent control really was a big issue for Pacifica last year, and council members Mike O'Neill, Karen Ervin, and Mary Ann Nihart protected us from falling victim to the dangers of rent control.

I don't know about the whole birther issue, and though Trump never really said that, everything Trump he did say on rent control was true. If you don't think the coastal area has a megaproblem with immigrants and drug gangs then you live in an ivory newby tower.

Chris or anyone else won't find an error in Trump's rent control position.

Kathy (so done with you) Meeh said...

247, since you can't seem to find a link to Donald Trump's complicity in spreading the Obama birther conspiracy smear here's a link. There are multiple articles on that link.

There is still rent control at the mobile home park. There is a new City committee to consider renter issues.
Most immigrants are good people, good citizens and good residents, including in this City and along the coast.
Your twisted FALSE and xrenophobic comments are tiresome.
Good bye to these redundant crap comments from unidentified you, unless in administration Steve overrides. If he does, I'm back...
