SF Gate/Jenna Lyons, 3/18/16. "Highway 101 closure coming this weekend in San Mateo County."
New Broadway Interchange Project design. Coming soon, in government time. |
All southbound 101 lanes between Millbrae and Broadway avenues will be blocked off from 1 to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, said Gidget Navarro, a Caltrans spokeswoman. The No. 1 northbound lane will also be closed during the roadwork in case of falling debris, she said. Traffic will be diverted to local roads at Millbrae Avenue, and drivers can pick up Highway 101 at Broadway.
The closures come during another phase in Caltrans’
$45 million Broadway Interchange Project, which is getting rid of a
heavily used but confusing and reviled bridge to make way for a new
seven-lane overpass, which opened to drivers Thursday morning. More
ramps still need to be built, with construction set to wrap up next
year. Officials are closing all northbound lanes in the
same section of the highway on March 26 and 27 from midnight until 6
a.m. for demolition."

Highway 101 interchange is finally in line for an overhaul. Now
officials just need to convince the federal government to help fund the
project. State, county and city officials on Monday released detailed plans
to replace the interchange at Broadway in Burlingame, which is used by
about 33,000 drivers daily. The $73 million project includes a new seven-lane overpass across
the freeway north of the existing four-lane crossing. Unlike the current
bridge, which connects both sides of the freeway with a winding road
requiring turns, the new overpass will be a straight shot connecting
Rollins Road to the west with Bayshore Highway to the east."
