"A newspaper family took over ownership of the Pacifica Tribune from Bay Area Newsgroup last week. New owner Sherman
Frederick of Marinscope Community Newspapers said readers and
advertisers will find the change relatively seamless.
.... “We are a journalist owned newspaper company that
owns and operates six newspapers in Marin County -- The Novato Advance,
the San Rafael News Pointer, the Mill Valley Herald, the Twin City
Times, the Ross Valley Reporter and the Sausalito Marin Scope. There is
also a Nevada component to the company, which operates six community
newspapers in Nevada, including the Sparks/Reno Tribune and the Mesquite
Local News. .... Founded in the 1930s under the name Coastside Tribune, Pacifica’s newspaper has been around for a long time. Lowell Blankfort bought it with a loan from his grandmother in 1954. Bill Drake purchased it in 1959 after the name was changed to Pacifica Tribune. He owned it for 30 years and sold it in 1989 to “Mainstreet Media,” a business put together by Richard Smith of Texas. After 10 years, Smith sold the paper to what was then Dean Singleton’s empire of the Alameda Newspaper Group, later changed to Bay Area News Group. 634, your reflective analysis tells me you may fit right-in with the four (4) other blogs.
BTW, the Tribune newspaper continues under different ownership-- that's the article, and that's the news.
It's a good thing to have several different ways of receiving information via the internet and actual print media and there is plenty of information in the Trib that is not published on the blogs.
BTW did everyone actually get their Tribunes on Wednesday? I did not.
I got my Tribune on Wednesday. I'm interested to see if I still get the Friday and Sunday San Mateo County Times.
Hi Sharon 1047, FYI, the Pacifica Tribune was delivered as usual in my neighborhood (Sun Valley). Anyone else have delivery problems?
At the same time, Mercury News was quick to eliminated Pacifica from their internet "My Town" listing. Poof, its as if Pacifica, the city, disappeared, or never was. Hence, point given to 634, "you don't miss it until it's gone." Newspapers provide a professional core news source, and community forum.
Looking over the articles on this blog, other news sources are also reprinted: such as city government and organizational announcements, agendas, press releases, various blog articles, occasional direct timely comments; regional and national news, thoughtful and goofy commentary articles and pictures.
The main focus on this blog is Fix Pacifica, so generally we're looking for economic and progress solutions, including conventional City planning.
Whereas, "Riptide" (the Maybury and Keener described best blog in town) walks the "nothing for Pacifica" trail to City disincorporation, while providing a forum for proponents against development, Highway 1 updating, and Sharp Park Golf Course, etc.
I received my paper and in fact it was unusually early.
Kathy what can we do about that horrible trailer park on Palmetto?

636, "everyone" does not agree with your "cheap" Pacific Skies Estates comment.
The City needs more "horrible to you" affordable, low cost, and senior housing. I know (you would probably agree with yourself), "everyone in town thinks" displacement and homelessness are such better alternatives.

"Solutions"? rarely provided here on FixPacifica. A single focused misrepresentation of the richness of different opinions.... and it is here on "Fix Pacifica" that conversation continues to disincorporate. At least the folks on the other blogs actually get out and DO SOMETHING in addition to posting on blogs.

The majority of Pacifica want the trailers off of Palmetto and have for a decade.

122, "different opinions" in this city are bipolar, and the anti-progress side has manipulated this City for decades, in large part through "misrepresentation": anti-progress, anti-development, anti-economics, anti-City budget stability, anti-City infrastructure sustainability (while at the same time eliminating productive City land). Supporting these views, including City disincorporation, is and has been the Riptide blog message.
Clearly you value that message, and your anonymous sentiment of "doing something" to break the City must appeal to you.
On Fix Pacifica blog, discussions about City economic, infrastructure, and civic solutions are easily enough understood.
And the intent of most anonymous comments are generally understood. For example, your comment bypasses analytical intelligence, and is seriously intended to confuse. Further, it's disingenuous and offensive that you claim knowledge of ANONYMOUS bloggers-- Anonymous bloggers on whatever blogs, really?
And is the 304 "majority of Pacificans" comment also yours? Since you do not recognize the difference between trailers, mobile homes, and modular homes, or understand private property rights, it's doubtful you took a City survey, right?
The trailers are in the RV park. The buildings in Pacific Skies Estates are mobile homes.
Any real objection to the RV park?
Maybe the name, San Francisco RV Resort, (700 Palmetto Avenue). Looks like a wonderful location for travelers.
