Should Fix Pacifica try comment moderation or registration for a month?

What do you think? Do we need to do something about the small group of cowards who consistently hide behind fake names in order to carry out their personal vendettas? Perhaps if people had to post comments under their real names, or at least register an email address to comment, it would cut down on the rants and attacks.

People would still be allowed to say whatever they wanted. Other than occasional occurrences of commercial spam, I've never removed any comment or post from the blog, and I'd expect that to continue.

Thanks,
Steve Sinai

This blog can't serve its purpose of fostering discussion about the issues affecting Pacifica if it is continually being hijacked by individuals incapable of civil behavior.

I vote for registration tied to a unique password so that readers can at least identify the "bad apples."

Steve, of course I vote yes for any reasonable controls you are willing to make.

Intelligent Anonymous (above) said it best: "This blog can't serve its purpose of fostering discussion about the issues affecting Pacifica if it is continually being hijacked by individuals incapable of civil behavior."

From my personal view, the blog should have clear guidelines of conduct to avoid confusion, ambiguity. And, weirdos which breach personal boundaries into obscenity should be subject to zero tolerance.

Can someone tell me what's been decided on this issue?

We'll keep it as it is for now. An occasional outbreak of incivility is inevitable, but if it becomes a habit, then we'll institute a registration procedure.

My impression is it's only a couple of people who cause most of the problems. Hopefully, they'll lose interest in the blog and drift away.
