If you're seeing this scenic sign, you may be stuck in traffic. If you need an ambulance, try again tomorrow. |
"Editor: On March 19, at approximately 7:50 a.m. on my way to work, while traveling north along Highway 1 approaching Vallemar, I heard the ambulance sirens behind me. As I pulled to the right I could see in my rear view mirror cars struggling to get out of the way. With sirens blaring for what appeared a legitimate emergency, the ambulance was required to come to a complete stop as the cars ahead were not able to/did not completely pull over allowing the ambulance to pass.
This observation worried me. If it were you in that ambulance, raise your hand if you would be OK with this impediment in getting you to the hospital. If it were you at home bleeding out, raise your hand if you would be OK with this lapse in response time. If it were you struggling to get your child breathing again, would you mind waiting the extra minute or so? Any hands raised? I doubt it. Let's stop the nonsense. Get the highway widened."

I heard there was an accident last Thursday morning involving an ambulance having to go the wrong way north on Hwy 1 near Fassler because of traffic. Evidently they had to call another ambulance.
Does anyone have information on this?
Yes
That morning the AMR ambulance had to make a decision on how to get a critically ill patient to the hospital. There decision to oppose traffic was not one any of us want to make unless it's completely necessary based on a patients condition. There was not much of a decision to be made since the only route to the hospital was gridlocked.
That's terrible. Is there anywhere that this is reported? What hospital? Is AMR the company?
Hi, Hutch:
Yes, there was a crash on southbound 1 between Fassler and Crespi on March 26 involving an ambulance. Kind of at the spot where you crest the hill and start sweeping down into the Linda Mar area.
I sent out Twitter/Facebook messages about the lane closures that morning, but I couldn't tell you which direction the ambulance was headed at the time. Sorry.
Thanks Chris, From what I've heard Thursday 3/27 around 7:20 am an ambulance was heading north in the southbound lanes because traffic was backed up so bad. They had a critical patient and the ambulance was involved in an accident serious enough that another ambulance had to be called. No word on the condition of anyone.
I'm sure we're going to hear all about this.
What would it take to revive I-380 extension all the way to Hwy 1?
See link in my handle.
This would make access to 280 and 101 quite easy and therefore could make Pacifica a more desirable residential location for Bay Area commuters.
What would it take to revive I-380 extension all the way to Hwy 1? An act of God, as in moving heaven and earth.
Like the parrot in the Monty Python sketch, the 380 extension is deceased, demised, passed on, it has ceased to be, it has expired.
@10:38 Why should it be so hard for something that is already planned for?
What are the factor making it impossible? There has to be a way to revive it.
Making Pacifica easily accessible to 101 corridor would mean easy access to jobs in the rest of SM. And also for valley tourists who want to spend a day or weekend in Pacifica.
Most of them converge on the weekends in HMB on 92. Having 380 connect to Pacifica would split some of that traffic to Pacifica, I think.
Also if and when the Sharp park Golf is upgraded, it would be easy to host serious golf tournaments in Pacifica which could attract some serious money.
Libertarian
You should post this over on pacifica riptide. The people in San Bruno who lived in Crestmoor banded together to stop 380. Towards the end a group of pacifica hippies jumped onboard.
I find it pretty funny over on riptide the "gang of no" deny their is a 'gang of no' I guess they realize they destroyed the town and let it decay into dispair.
Not in order but I notice when they read something they don't like.
The bring out the big guns and members of the Pacifica think tank.

"There has to be a way to revive it." Go ahead, knock yourself out. That should keep you busy for a decade or 2.
Libertarian
Isn't Libertaism about small governments and free market economies?
I think its pretty socialistic were they believe in income equality.
@10:34
Fundamentally, Libertarianism is about fair exchange of goods, services and trading under purview of law. While accepting the rights of all participators to partake in such an exchange. Or Free market economy.
"Fairness" is an extremely important requisite for free market economies.
The argument against big government is that it basically escapes local accountability by virtue of its size and can force unfair market conditions by virtue of its monopoly of force. Both with serve to degrade the freedoms of market participants and skew the market place.
Put another way, Libertarianism in its true spirit is about Government transparency, accountability, accessibility with respect for human rights and responsibility towards ensuring the rule of law that is based on justice rather than semantics.
That said, modern Libertarianism in America is largely poorly understood and is (and rather unfortunately) associated with a weird mixture of neo-liberalism and neo-conservatism both of which have very little to do with original Libertarian ideas espoused by Confucius, Buddha, Lao Tse, Jesus Christ, St Augustine, St Francis of Assisi, John Locke, David Ricardo, David Hume, Leo Tosltoy, Fredric Bastiat, Mikhail Bakunin, Peter Kropotkin, Adam Smith, Henry David Thoreau, Ludwig Von Mises, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Gandhi, Murray Rothbard, Freidrich Hayek, Edward Abbey and others ...
Libertarianism is the oldest and most pre-eminent political ideology of humankind. It is an ideology of causal political economy. That outcomes are dictated by effects. And that economic conditions drive political actions.
There are many many historical references of Libertarianism in various religious and political treatments during the entire course of known and recorded human history.
Like all ideologies, Libertarianism too is subject to misinterpretation and demagogy.
However, it won't matter. Libertarianism proposes that market operates on the basis of causality and will continue to do so regardless of any attempts by external forces to dictate its behavior.
If you are truly interested in academic understanding of Libertarianism, I highly suggest starting with
"The Law" by Fredric Bastiat.
Hope this helps.
Or, follow the money.
Show me the money
Greed is good!
So it means.
I would rather have a potato handed to me.
Than grow me my own potato's
Like communism?
Lay off the potatoes.
@12:25 PM
I think it is not productive to compare, espouse and/or criticize ideologies.
However, what is important are "justness", "fairness" & freedoms. And an active dialogue that attempts to derive the aforementioned.
The world is a dynamic place and it would be unrealistic to hope to change it with anyone set of beliefs.
So, I think it is important to have a locus of belief that is centered on the premise which would enable greater understanding of oneself and the world around.
And then deal with the world as it deals with you with integrity and fairness.
109 Been away a while, haven't you?

It is puff puff pass!
Local Lolbertarian is clearly an accidentally embarrassed millionaire, a Captain of Internet Inndustry, a veritable Warren Buffet cum Gandhi of Pacifica.
Please share more of your visionary ideas with us lowly proles. Extending 380 is a good one. Really shows that you're on top of things. Don't stop. Perhaps next you'd like to see our Pier extended all the way to Hawaii?
Columbos for lunch, pina coladas for dinner, yee-haw!
Shine on, Dagny Taggart!
The plural of potato is potatoes.

I know Webster. I can't stand my iphone auto correct.
Thought the Urban Dictionary definition of Libertarian might be helpful in understanding the philosophical and ideological issues of such "Local Libertarian" pseudonym advertisement. (Could be, sometimes it pays not to advertise).
That explains a lot Kathy. LMAO.
I prefer Thom Hartmann's definition of a Libertarian: Republicans who want to smoke dope and get laid.
if iphone autocorrect adds an apostrophe to make a plural, it needs to go back to school

Your a by more hip than I thought. I didn't think you knew about the urban dictionary.
Kathy's way cool. Some of her choices for graphics to accompany articles are wicked funny. Adds to the experience.
8:30, 11:34 glad you're amused my two fans, thanks! I'm just as amused by other blog comments and occasional articles. (City dysfunction provides wealth of "logical" responses.)
