"PACIFICA -- A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was hit by a car Tuesday night in Pacifica. Police
say the boy was hit about 9:30 p.m. (4/22/14) in the
400 block of Monterey Road
after he walked into the road from between parked cars. Responding
officers found him lying in the roadway, and he was taken to the
hospital to be treated for a
leg injury.
The boy's injuries are
not considered life threatening, Pacifica police Capt. Joe Spanheimer said. The
driver of the vehicle was cooperative with investigators, who don't
believe speed was a factor in the crash, Spanheimer said. The
investigation is ongoing."

Parents and teachers need to start teaching kids how to cross the street safely again. When we were kids they drummed it into your head to stop look listen and never j-walk. Make eye contact with the driver and look both ways.
People now are given the message that pedestrians have the right of way no matter what. You don't have to worry because the cars have to stop. Sure that's usually correct, but it doesn't help you if you're crippled or dead. I see so many kids and young adults cross the street and never look even when cars beep. A girl that walks to IBL j-walked out in front of my car a few weeks ago and didn't look even when I beeped. Teach your kids safety!
