Yo Midpeninsula, Pacifica has open space |
"Voters in three counties, including San Mateo County, will decide June 3 on a $300 million bond measure that focuses on expanding access to public lands, while restoring and preserving land in the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District for the next 30 years. If two-thirds of voters in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and portions of Santa Cruz county pass Measure AA, officially called the Access, Preservation and Restoration of Open Space Lands, the Midpeninsula Open Space District would be able address a list of 25 environmental projects — 14 specific to San Mateo County — it claims cannot be addressed with its current funding.
Its current $34 million annual budget is paid for with property assessments currently $17 per $100,000 assessed value. That budget pays for offices, property purchases, projects and salaries.
If Measure AA passes, each residence will pay an additional maximum $3.18 per $100,000 assessed value. That money will go to projects, preservation and restoration of sites. Opposition is coming from the Silicon Valley Taxpayers Association. Aaron Neighbour, member of the association’s Board of Directors, said the group’s concern is another tax increase and the use of preserving as a main characteristic of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District." Ok I was going for this until the part about us paying this tax but Pacifica gets no benefit. BS.
Being Pacifica almost gave every parcel of land away for open space I have to say NO also.
Why are we left off the goodies list? Maybe because all our magnificent gifts went to the GGNRA and nada as far as I know to the MidPeninsula Open Space District.
No one cares about Pacifica. Now that East Palo Alto is cleaned up, it is the arse end of San Mateo County.
I wish the Pacifica haters would leave

I wish the hippies, nooobeees and nimby's leave.
And take the city of Pacifica apologists with them.
Doubt this measure will pass. Regardless of income, imo, Bay Area residents are tired of proposals to increase taxation when it is clearly apparent that local municipalities' spending continues to run amuck.
Interesting that over the past four weeks I have received FOUR 4-color "ads" to support/vote for Measure AA. In fact, none of the mailers have ANY specific information about earmarked open space, and that's because there is plan - however, the "preserve it for your children and grandchildren, and the photos of the mountain lions, etc. appeal to the heartstrings of the under-educated (on this matter). $300 million now will become $600 mill over the next 30 years. As such, our "children and grandchildren" will bear that burden. You won't see that in the ads. Oh, by the way, the 4-color mailer cost 260K, which came directly out of your donations. And, Steve Abbors does NOT need a raise. He's already making in the high 200k level, but wants to be compensated like the PA City Manager. Uh, hello? City Mgr has police, fire, city, and a whole lot more reap. than Abbors. I can only HOPE this is voted down. PAY AS YOU GO!
"North peninsula is not part of Midpeninsula District, but pays the annual tax."
Is that legal?
This bond measure does nothing for Pacifica.
Vote no!
no taxation without representation SteveO
WHERE'S MY PITCHFORK??
1:04 have another
Measure AA was not on my mail in ballot? I had 2 pages, did they forget a page?
And another weird thing is Leeland Yee was still on my ballot for Secretary of State.
"Measure AA was not on my mail in ballot? I had 2 pages, did they forget a page?"
Pacifica is not part of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, so there was nothing on Pacifica ballots about this.
They print those suckers well in advance. Perhaps also he stays on til he's removed from office. Let's see if the voters are awake.
So Steve, we would have to pay this tax if passes but we don't get to vote on it?
Hutch, I would be surprised if that's the case.
Measure AA was not on my ballot or my families
