on the Pacific Bay Vistas, the new upscale apartment complex at Skyline
Boulevard and Sharp Park Road, is nearing completion and, for many
residents in San Bruno and the surrounding cities, the sight is a
welcome change from the dilapidated Treetop apartments that stood vacant
there for half a decade. "It's quite an achievement," said San
Bruno Mayor Jim Ruane of the new construction. "It's something we have
looked forward to for a long time now."

14 buildings on 13 acres of space. Some of the new amenities include a
saltwater swimming pool, a fitness center, fire pit and a private

Awful location - nothing walkable to or from there and the weather is the worst in the Bay Area. That firepit will get a workout.

I live down the street from this place and it is ridiculous. They falsely advertise it as "new" housing even though it's the same buildings as the old, mold-infested Treetops Apartments. Even the name is misleading -- for a good part of the year the only "vista" is fog. The rents are outrageously high, especially for an unwalkable neighborhood with no shops or other attractions nearby. During construction they closed off the Susan Drive access road for much longer than they were originally supposed to, causing problems for the entire neighborhood. I really wish the City of San Bruno had partnered with a responsible developer instead of Aimco.
It took 20 years for mold to take down the original complex. Love how management and tenants are on "mold watch" with the rebuild. Still, AIMCO was willing and SB was eager.
They'll charge every penny of market-rate to recoup that 93 Million Dollar investment. Pacifica should be so lucky! Maybe they'll come down the hill to run their dogs on the beach.
Try renting an apt in SF for less than 4 grand.
The rents are too high? That's true if no one will pay them, but how likely is that?
many Fix Pacifica readers might not recall that once upon a time this site was a small shopping center complete with a movie theater. This was way before Tanforan and Serramonte Centers were open. So foggy up there (way back when) actually one time,had to have a friend walk in front of our car on Skyline Blvd to make sure I was still on the paved roadway.

Yes SF rents are higher. But at least SF has been mandating at least 10% of new units are affordable housing.
Pacifica needs to do this.
@7 Doesn't Pacifica do that? Seems like every project proposed has language to that effect. Of course those projects, even when finally approved, rarely were built. Funding fell through, market crash, whatever. A project that is 100% affordable will meet with resistance from neighboring property owners. A few years ago there was some discussion of an affordable housing project for the old Oddstad school property if the property became available. Just very preliminary talk. Immediate opposition apparently led by a tennis-playing realtor who lived in Park Pacifica. I know affordable often gets confused with low-income, but I rather doubt there was any confusion on that one. Of course everyone said they were in favor of the project but it just wasn't the right spot. Nimbys are everywhere.

God forbid that his place succeeds and fills with renters. Then what will the "Pacifica wrecking" NOBIES point to as the reason for ghetto Pacifica?
I hope it fills up fast and perhaps sparks some interest among developers to look at nearby opportunities. AIMCO was rebuilding and bringing their non-income producing property back on line, but
it might generate some interest in the area. Can't hurt.

I lived there in 1994-1996 and the rent was 950 a month for a large one bedroom. Times have changed.
