Scam Alert
I received this from smcalert.info -
02/16/14 15:56***SCAM ALERT***
An unknown person or persons have been calling residents and advising that they are a member of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. The caller informs the resident that a warrant for their arrest exists and directs them to purchase a GreenDot card for varying amounts of money if they wish to avoid arrest. The callers involved in the above scam are NOT members of law enforcement.
If you receive a similar call and are unsure of its legitimacy, use publicly available resources to locate a contact phone number for the responsible agency and verify the caller's identity and/or their story. If you have suffered a loss due this type of scam, report it to the law enforcement agency responsible for your area.
