3. Replacement of 40 obsolete 8-10 year old computers, $36,018.

$900.45 per computer. I didn't know Nordstrom's sold computers!

4 out of 5 council members at this event is a Brown Act Violation.

432 What are you talking about? The ribbon cutting for that old shuttle? Or the upcoming City Council meeting? If you mean the meeting, that's the funniest thing ever. You are a sly one.

431 See how you are. You would deny them these tools? Nothing but the best for our public serpents.

Anonymous said...

No it's not. If you think it is, you don't understand the Brown Act.

Kathy Meeh said...

431 Yeah, you don't know anything other than MISLEADING INFORMATION AND MISREPRESENTATION.

3. To avoid further confusion, the City purchase order has been added to the city agenda article. Computer cost: $828 each, plus taxes, x 40 computers. The vendor is Beta Nineties Computer, Inc., San Francisco.

After 8-10 years of computer usage, this is a reasonable expenditure.

Yeah 431 complain complain complain. It's not like it's an off agenda and under the radar survey this Council or one of its sub-committees is buying. This is right out there in the open. Process it, baby!

IOt is not a Brown Act violation for all council members to be present at an event as long as they aren't collaborating. They were all at the Fog Fest, they're all at city hall, they all attend functions. It's not a violation Mr sign painter. And even if it was good luck getting the DA to do anything.

Good explanation followed by a stirring tribute to local gov't 759. Crowd goes wild!

They could have bought computers at Office Depot or any electronics store for $499.00 each.

You don't need a super computer or HD Stereo sound to play free cell.

Kathy Meeh said...

859 on the other hand, the city could have bought computers that were much more expensive. $828 is about the price a computer for business would be expected to cost.

Click the Item 3 purchase order link (article above) if you care what the computers include. No "sound equipment" as you claim (total BS from you), whereas motherboards were included.

Kathy

Don't let the fact get in your way

From Page 5 of the purchase order

Intergrated HD Stereo Sound.

Kathy Meeh said...

1041, thank you for pointing-out "HD stereo sound" is likely standard in a functional, integrated computer system. Nowhere on the list is there additional speakers, headphones, other sound or video adaptations, or anything that would be lots of entertainment fun.

The following may be three (3) descriptions of the same "HD stereo sound" (from the purchase order), which you may be referring to on page 5: Page 1, the integrated LAN, video and sound card; page 3 AMD Radeo (or Radeon) HD 8570 Video card; and page 5 Integrated HD stereo sound.

There are lots of balanced text and video needs in running a business, a city, and even a home computer these day. Hence of the three descriptions, your comment is technically correct-- each computer system does include an "integrated HD stereo sound" card. So????

Your prior 859 comment refers to and implies these business computers (equipment and cost) may be irregular for city needs. So, I'm suggesting that such immaterial commentary smears may be ignorant at best, and misleading at worst. (This city does have some real structural problems, but based upon the information before us, this is not one of them).

So are these stripped down models at $800 plus for 40 or are do they have
some bells and whistles?

Curious. Do they buy such things by bid? Never heard of Beta Nineties Computer Inc. How is the selection made? I'm just curious and ignorant.

Steve "The Nerd" Sinai said...

According to the purchase order, there was a bid process and Beta Nineties won. It looks like they're custom-built computers, and they're loaded with some pretty advanced hardware. Still, if they can make these things last 8-10 years, it will have been a good deal. The computers they sell for $499 at Best Buy or Fry's are meant to last about 2-3 years before replacement.

8-10 years does make it a good deal.
Thanks, Nerdy.
