I'm a democrat of almost 40 years. Where do I sign up to be a republican? Democrats and their union cronies is why Pacifica, the county, state and country is in such deep doodoo. They should ban unions from government. It doesn't work. What you end up with are people being overpaid and retiring at 50 with full free health care. All the while sucking funds out of programs for the poor, seniors and kids. Nice going democrats.
You're no Democrat and you never were. That's classic Republican you're spewing. Probably 2nd or
3rd generation.
Sorry Anon 647,but I'v been a card holding Democrat since 1975. I've voted on both sides of the ticket over the years. But Democrats today aren't what they used to be. They're not the "Ask not what your country can do for you" they are the "government please take care of me" Democrats. Even Bill Clinton wanted welfare reform. But the leadership today is far far left. Give me my party back or continue to lose our vote.
There are many "moderate" Democrats who feel disconnected from their party because the left that has taken over.
There are many "moderate" Republicans who feel disconnected from their party because the right that has taken over.
With government, whether Republican or Democrat, over 30 years the private sector has generally lost benefits, wheras the public sector as retained and gained benefits. This divergence did not happen overnight, so we really should not pretend it did.
CalPers employees are eligible for their pension at age 50, but actual retirement ages vary from age age 53 to age 62. The retirement ages "will..increase..in the coming decades." Currently the average age is 60. Quick CalPers facts, as of 6/30/11. Most CalPers employees should probably vest and retire older, similar to private sector social security. But, what is a good retirement age for high stress, high risk jobs such as Police and Fire?
Who knows whether you're really a Republican or a Democrat Anon (600, 708)? Rather than Democrats moving to the left, it is more observable that the Republican party-line has moved to the far-right and apparently "swept you off your feet".
Did anyone go to the "State of the County" presentation from non-partisan Supervisor Carole Groom today? If so, do you recall what she said about the economic health of the county?
Bllzzzt! The democratic party has changed. It is no longer the party my father belonged to. They are the party that takes from the poor and gives to the brainwashed of both parties that believe in BIG GOVERNMENT and to hell with the country. That is their motto 'TO HELL WITH THE COUNTRY JUST GIVE ME YOUR SHARE AND SHUT UP!'
Ditto here, my mom was big in the democratic party. But that was a much different organization. Te party now is run by big unions who have gotten sweetheart contracts which are strangling our government.
The only reason I don't convert to republican is my mom would roll over in her grave.

Thanks Fact Check
No one else could have figured that out and why let them try?
Anon (409), then again, why cloud issues unnecessarily? But, then we live in a city with clouded issues.
Kam is ALIVE??? WOW! Fact check , run by Obama Friends, is not trustworthy. Do your own research. Idiots.

I went from Democrat to Decline to State about 10 years ago, because the Democrats were descending into gutter with Republicans.
It was very liberating.
