Item 10. The Dog Park design and rules was easily approved by all city council. Beverly Kingsbury representing POOCH is not a whinner, but did mention it took 5 years to get this far.

History prior to that on behalf of a dog running area goes back to about year 2000.

Councilmember DeJarnatt reiterated the city cost comes from a park fee assessed to those who build new structures.

Yes, Bev Kingsbury is a winner, not a whiner, and this dog park is largely due to her professionalism, common sense and perserverence.
Way to go Beverly!

Big bark for Beverly and Pooch, but 5 years to get this far to put-in a simple dog park, paid for by those who build new and a citizen organization? Congratulations Pacifica, possibly another "no growth" 1st for San Mateo County. Everyone acknowledges Stephen Johnson is a wonderful photographer, but Sanchez School fields and Art Center are designated for "recreation". With Johnson's insistent dog complaints maybe the City would allow him to vacate his lease. Mayor Nihart always seems to run a good meeting. All city council members were present. Consideration items 8-12 were all approved.

Notation, Councilmember Digre. Digre voted NO on item 8, a liquor license for the Manor Shell gas station convenience store, others voted yes. And, although the issue was not much discussed, there may be valid reasons for that consideration, but....

Item 12 is where the conversation went "off track" for Councilmember Digre from my view. And I suspect other majority Councilmembers may share many similar economic concepts with Digre, not based upon researched, factual evidence outside or inside Pacifica. The Economic Development Committee asked to 1) fill one vacancy, 2) add Courtney Conlon, the Chamber of Commerce CEO, and 3) Mayor Nihart asked to add one more member so that the total members would be 9, an odd number for voting purposes. In discussion Digre said NO to all, and suggested sub-committees review the main committee findings prior to these main committee "suggestions" being sent to City Council for approval, or not.

In addition, Councilmember Digre described the work of the Economic Development should include member representation from "our culture, history, sports, ecology". "Our culture, history, sports, ecology", is likely the more defined description of "our environment is our economy". Therefore, "our economy is our cultural amenities"? Nice mythology, but were our "cultural amenities" ever intended to make much of a profit, if any? Probably not without contributions, or wealthy, scarce benefactors. Add to that the City economic plan (defined by City Council over the past 8 years): "recreation". And, more recently "eco tourism". Without much of a strategic, developed infrastructure or centers of destination, there isn't much of an economy. Best of the Road? Pacifica is a stop-over.

Driving back into town from San Francisco yesterday, with no viewable ocean due to marine layer, I could easily see the areas of pulled weeds, but the City also looked rundown, and doesn't appear to have much of a unified or developed structure.
