They're just tar balls
Looks like our "state of the art" waste water treatment plant has come through for us again. Thanks to our numerous spills and a lovely lawsuit by the San Francisco Regional Water Board and "the children of a lesser biodiversity institute" big brother has given many of us a choice to either pay for a sewer lateral replacement, or.........................................pay for a sewer lateral replacement.

So nice to be forced to spend money by the city. What if you can't afford it? How much will this aleviate the problem or is it another bandaid!
Thanks council, for you leadership and vision. You should be the first to get your homes scoped and then an energy audit, and made to comply, along with the un-planning commission.
I like to think of them as the Poverty-Planning Commission. In the interest of accuracy and all that.
Who do we sue to stop the sewer lateral ripoff of the poor public? Does the county say this is the source of the problem?
Blame the EPA, blame the courts, blame the regional Water Quality Control Board, blame Our Children's Earth, and blame the Orangeburg maker, this one is not the fault of our Treatment plant and the city is not making you pay.
That Orangeburg stuff in LM has to be more than 55 years old. Nothing lasts forever.

Gee whiz I think you're right. Taxes and elected Pacifica officials do seem to last forever.
So yes, "nothing lasts forever," homeowners need to replace their laterals. Duh! So who pays for that? I am not paying for your lateral but apparently I am because you did not replace your own.
The sewer taxes we all pay are to maintain the city's main sewers and to treat the water, not to fix private problems. These programs are actually a benefit to the residents and property owners.
Why should the city pay to fix private sewers on private property? Residents should be happy that the city is willing to help offset the cost!

You could use a little look aid. Might clear the desire to always find a scapegoat. City bad. City bad. It gets old when it tries to cover for a lack of personal responsibility. Get off the complaining and get out there to do some real good. Complainers drag our city down. Try doing something positive to help make things better.
Anon @ 2:32 is correct. These are private property issues and the city is working to help each one. The fines incurred for each property owner will be absorbed by all property owners through the increases that get passed. Consider that as a helping hand.
Why does my memory inform me that sewer laterals within 10 feet of city property were replace (paid by the city) 8-10 years ago and prior? Wrong, or is it that prior to "no growth" city council majority, the city had a better plan for its citizens?
You would think if one of the City Council members and maybe if a Planning Commissioner worked a day job at the EPA the toilets would flush and the poop will be properly treated
I guess we should really be grateful to those parties who sued the city with the resulting fine going to a fund to help property owners fix those leaking laterals. I'm grateful to them and the judge, really I am.

Neither cities nor home owner's insurance pays for this anymore. When it became a huge problem, it became the property owner's problem.
Not just Pacifica but of course being flat broke with absolutely no relief in sight(other than another tax going on the ballot) doesn't help. Prepare to pay.
