Update from economy and job killing Congress
FAA airport building progress stopped, 74,000 workers unemployed.
From The Hill's Blog Briefing Room. "Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood called Congress to come back from recess and fund the FAA. He blamed Congress for going on vacation while 4,000 FAA employees are not receiving paychecks, in addition to the 70,000 contractors who are not able to work. LaHood told CNN that safety will not be compromised.
When asked if he was gaining any traction on getting Congress to vote to fund the FAA, he said he is waiting to find out and called on Congress not to just talk about jobs, but 'walk the walk.' 'Laying off 70,000-plus people is not my idea of putting people to work. Congress ought to come back and do their work, come back from their vacations, do their work to put hard-working Americans to work.' "
