Reception for Don Horsley

Whether you're a golfer or not, I'm sure you are aware of the long battle that has been waged over the fate of Sharp Park Golf Course. Our venerable old course has been threatened by elements of extreme environmentalism, misguided visionaries who would transform the the land into a sanctuary for frogs and snakes. Not to mention rats, raccoons, skunks and mosquitoes.

Sharp Park is one of the jewels in the crown of Pacifica, a beautiful, historic, ocean-side links course of wide, forgiving fairways and breathtaking views. And, of critical concern these days, it's a significant economic asset to the community, hosting over 50,000 rounds a year. Perhaps most importantly, it's a public golf course, open to all at an affordable cost.

The anti-golf forces have been stymied in their efforts so far, but I'm sure the war is far from over. To prevail we must have the support of our elected officials, particularly at the county level. Don Horsley, candidate for county supervisor from our district, is an avowed supporter of Sharp Park. His opponent is definitely not. There are actually a great many reasons to vote for Don, but this one is good enough for me.

Drop by the Sharp Park Clubhouse Monday evening and say hello to Don. I realize there's a City Council meeting at the same time (and the Monday Night Football game) but take a few minutes to show support for the candidate who supports our course. Hope to see you there.

Don "double dip" Horsley would be a disaster for San Mateo County. Slavin thinks its an "economic asset"? lol - well maybe if we put a use tax of $5 per round it might generate some cash.

Don has been working for San Mateo County for many, many years. Just what disaster has he caused? Say, you wouldn't be one of those stymied anti-golf forces, would you?

Horsley will do nothing for Pacifica. You people are being suckered once again

Anon 11:01AM, 12:00PM, you are annoying. The comment you made that Don Horsley would be "double dipping" is pure fiction, he stated the opposite of what you just said. And, he has a long history of community service in San Mateo county.

As for Pacifica, Don Horsley has a relationship with this community, and he has been helpful in retaining our access to Sharp Park Golf Course.

Oh, as Paul Slavin mentioned, you're probably anti-golf course, which means you're also probably anti-sea wall. Assuming that's true, talk to April (the other Supervisor candidate), she probably agrees with you. No way would I vote for April Vargas for that reason alone: her campaign manager and team in Pacifica are anti-golf course and anti-sea wall.

April said she hasn't made up her mind about the golf course (still thinking). Don Horsley, on the other hand, was immediately pro-golf course and pro-sea wall. So, there's one major distinction between the two candidates, think you can figure it out now?

I am supporting April, but I think Don would also be fine.

The funny thing is that both Don and April are running for SAN MATEO County supervisor, not SAN FRANCISCO County which is the entity that owns and pretty much controls the fate of Sharp Park Golf Course. If you support keeping the golf course, I can see that you might support Don. But given that each of us has limited time and energy and the county has limited funds and an abundance of other concerns seems to me we should be bending our Co. supes' ears about issues they have real control over. Just tryin' to be practical.

The fact that Vargas won't come out in support of the golf course tells me that she's the kind of NIMBY environmentalist with which we're more than familiar locally. The fact that she won't come out either way tells me that she's an oily, Vreeland-esque politician that wants to talk out of both sides of her mouth.

Vote for her if you want to run the county into the ditch like has already happened in Pacifica.

I'm pro-golf course but anti-sea wall. Anyone who is pro-sea wall is pro-destroying the beach and the coast. If Horsely is pro-sea wall, I'm voting for Vargas.

Horsley is pro-golf course. Vargas won't take a stand. I'm voting for Horsley.

Don Horsley currently receives $208,194. per year. If elected he should put his pension on hold and take the $115,980.80 Supervisor salary.

County employees cannot draw a pension if they take a job with the County after retirement. Why should Horsley get special treatment? Horsley plans to rip-off the taxpayers and he's not being honest about it.
