Whether you're a golfer or not, I'm sure you are aware of the long battle that has been waged over the fate of Sharp Park Golf Course. Our venerable old course has been threatened by elements of extreme environmentalism, misguided visionaries who would transform the the land into a sanctuary for frogs and snakes. Not to mention rats, raccoons, skunks and mosquitoes.
Sharp Park is one of the jewels in the crown of Pacifica, a beautiful, historic, ocean-side links course of wide, forgiving fairways and breathtaking views. And, of critical concern these days, it's a significant economic asset to the community, hosting over 50,000 rounds a year. Perhaps most importantly, it's a public golf course, open to all at an affordable cost.
The anti-golf forces have been stymied in their efforts so far, but I'm sure the war is far from over. To prevail we must have the support of our elected officials, particularly at the county level. Don Horsley, candidate for county supervisor from our district, is an avowed supporter of Sharp Park. His opponent is definitely not. There are actually a great many reasons to vote for Don, but this one is good enough for me.
Drop by the Sharp Park Clubhouse Monday evening and say hello to Don. I realize there's a City Council meeting at the same time (and the Monday Night Football game) but take a few minutes to show support for the candidate who supports our course. Hope to see you there.
