Public meeting in Pacifica on January 21 re: coastal regional sediment management

 

Coastal Regional Sediment Management Plan 2015-16

The Coastal Regional Sediment Management Plan (CRSMP or Plan) for the San Francisco Littoral Cell (SFLC) is being developed to assist government entities, municipalities, stakeholders, and communities in developing strategies for the beneficial use of sediments to address coastal erosion and storm damage. The Plan will provide information for local and regional coastal decision makers to develop policies and execute management sub-plans for the future vitality of beaches and shoreline areas throughout the Plan area, which stretches from the Golden Gate to Point San Pedro through the adjacent watersheds and includes the communities of San Francisco, Daly City, and Pacifica (see map).
Specific San Francisco Littoral Cell CRSMP objectives include:

• Strategize to restore and maintain coastal beaches and critical erosion hotspots
• Reduce the proliferation of protective shoreline structures
• Sustain recreation and tourism
• Enhance public safety and access
• Restore coastal sandy habitats through the littoral cell
• Address areas with excessive sediment

The Coastal Sediment Management Workgroup (CSMW), a federal-state partnership, is developing the Plan in conjunction with local public agencies, organizations, consultants, and stakeholders.

Draft Plan Now Available For Review

The draft SFLC CRSMP is now available for a 30-day review and public comment period that will close on February 3, 2016.

How to Provide Comments on Draft Plan

Comments can be submitted in four ways:

• Complete the online comment form,
• Email comments directly to jgolomb@kearnswest.com,
• Submit written comment form at an upcoming public meeting, or
• Send comments via postal mail to Kearns & West, Attn: Julia Golomb, 475 Sansome St., Suite 570, San Francisco, CA 94111.

When providing comments on the draft Plan, please consider the following:

• Comments should be concise and focus specifically on the content of the draft Plan.
• Where applicable, comments should identify the specific part(s) of the draft Plan at issue.

Upcoming Public Meetings – January 2016

The CSMW will hold two public meetings in January to present on the draft Plan’s purpose and contents, answer questions and solicit comments. The meeting times and locations are as follows:

• San Francisco – Thursday, January 14, 6:00 to 8:00 pm

United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco, 2700 45th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94116

• Pacifica – Thursday, January 21, 6:00 to 8:00 pm
