Holiday Season, I just want a little bite: door-to-door, telephone, internet, shopping center parking lots... |
Nextdoor/County of San Mateo/Crime and Safety/Christa Bigue/Social Media Coordinator, 12/11/15, "Unregistered and unlicensed solicitors in your neighborhood".
"There have been reports over the past couple
of days of unregistered and unlicensed solicitors going door-to-door on
the Peninsula, some posing as representatives for the Supported Training
& Employment Program (STEP) for Emancipated Foster Youth. STEP is
an internship program sponsored by the County of San Mateo's Human
Services Agency and Human Resources Department.
The Human Services Agency and Human Resources Department, which includes
STEP, does not engage in door-to-door solicitations of any kind.
If you encounter an individual soliciting on behalf of the County of San Mateo, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency or call the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office at 650-363-4911. Unlicensed soliciting is a city or county ordinance violation which were enacted to keep our community safe. ..."

Related, required permit in one San Mateo County city. NBC/Bay City News, 7/18/15, "Door-To-Door Solicitors Required To Carry Permits in San Carlos". "A recent increase in the number of
door-to-door solicitors operating in San Carlos has prompted authorities
to remind the public to ask for a physical copy of their solicitor's
permit, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Individuals and
businesses that wish to sell door to door are required to obtain a
solicitors permit from the City of San Carlos before contacting
residents, and they have to carry a physical copy of that permit.with them while engaging in door-to-door sales, according to sheriff's deputies." The internet doesn't seem to bring up requirements from the County, or cities other than San Carlos within the County.
