no planning thus no meeting.
sure sign of a town moving ever closer to bankruptcy.
Sure sign of managing the message. Why would our new council allow a hold-over, hippie planning commission a regular public forum just because council lacks the political cohones, or perhaps even the consensus, to replace them?
Out of sight, out of mind works almost as well.
Let's see, anon 12:05, planning director and staff are doing their job and facilitating administratively what Crabtree should have been doing for years. Oh, and council is re-interviewing for all seven positions for the planning commission that they vacated, along with all the other commissions and committees, several meetings ago.
Right up there on current events I see.
MMM@555, Woohoo! This is definitely the place to announce that news. Very deft message management, indeed. May we all tap into your moonbeam and learn at what meeting the decision to vacate the planning commission, etc. was made? Who is being interviewed and how did they learn of the openings? Moonbeam? Or are you actually describing some internal process with the incumbents? Seem to recall a council sub-committee on commissions and task forces and a study session in March but I'm mad for your details.
BTW, I agree fewer meetings indicates a better run planning department and less opportunity to make meetings into a soapbox--as well as no business to conduct. And, just to be clear, I'm an advocate for dumping the whole bunch as a public announcement that the welcome mat for development is out in Pacifica. If council has done that and boldly follows up with true pro-growth appointments then God bless them!
No more planning commission? That can't be true. Somebody is playing word games. Big deal if they re-interview the old ones. Leopards don't change their spots.
That's a sneaky scam by a sneaky council. Any other city council would see the problem and just start fresh. That's their right. This council is owned by the enviros. Way too cozy.
Blaming NIMBIES? Nah, blame developers who can't think of anything that would get community backing. What we have here are people too stupid to go beyond a quick profit on the same useless crap... or can't manage to even get funded in a red hot market.
Wrong. Thanks to NIMBYs, Pacifica has a reputation as a place hostile to economic development. It will take a few years and a few successful projects before that goes away.
Just once, I'd like our local NIMBYs to admit that they have some responsibility for the economic mess our city is in
Remove this planning commission and put in people who are pro-growth and watch that reputation change. Council is stalling and taking the "technical" approach to make this change so that their NIMBY friends don't get all mad and that's too slow and not what we voted for. Grow a backbone and do your job!
If the largest commercial developer in the United States took off out of Pacifica after their quarry proposal was voted down.
If Peebles Corp was voted down.
What makes any developer think that the 3rd time will be a charm.
Pacifica, has been hostile to developers for over 30+ years. Not even the chance of filing bankruptcy has changed the mood here.
Why should developers piss away good money in a city that does not want them, or will not talk to them in good faith, when other cities will.
Anon@143 you sure got that right! Pacifica is an enviro legacy and nothing has changed. When you read earlier posts about changes on the planning commission you're hopeful, but from the city agendas and minutes there's nothing but housekeeping going on. Our policy wonks do love to keep house. Now, maybe that's council's backdoor way (kinda like the feds getting Capone for income tax evasion)to get to the real and urgent planning commission problem or maybe not. Pacifica has a serious image problem!
Poor council. Trying not to piss off the nimbys while keeping the pro-growthers happy must be exhausting. Why not just do what's best for the city and release the commission and start over?
One of the meeting notices announcing a study session on commissions and committees, etc. says current commissioners and committee members will be allowed to serve beyond the expiration date of their terms to allow biz to be handled as usual. In the case of the planning commission that cannot be what's best for this city.
@1128 they got money, we run them off. they got no money, we string them along knowing nothing will be built. we deserve to hit bottom and we will.
Pacifica is a hippie town. Hippie and all that the term means. Hippie. Not yuppie. Elect anybody you want, flying any flag, they know who owns 'em. Won't change a thing.
The only beach town on the west coast that doesn't take advantage of being a beach town.
Wouldn't know how if they wanted to. Not convinced anyone other than the realtors and a few on here even want to "take advantage". Absolutely no proof exists. Bassackwards and proud of it!
Be still my heart. Page 4A of today's Trib has a notice that the City of Pacifica is recruiting citizens for the Planning Commission. Let's hope it's for 7 vacancies and not just those that have termed-out or fail the mid-term. Do it right, council!
No other ads for other commissions/committees, just planning.
shhhhh please.
Oh man, the questioning and background searches of the applicants will be intense. And, then we have the psychological screening. Oh wait...the chosen have already been cleared.
Question 1.
Highway 1 is ok as it sits?
Yes or No
If you picked yes bye bye
The present planning commission is a who's who of Pacifica hippies and attorney's placed on planning by the hippie and nooobe catering council.
time will tell. they have to find folks who will take orders but not rile up the hippies. spano? economic dev bkgrnd and he drew a cross-section of support in the last election just like the winners. and planning commish has often been a stepping stone to city council. hey, how about lancelle? she's rested and ready to rumble. that one would be hard to ignore as an applicant. casillas? works well with others. a builder or realtor would seem to have crippling conflict of interest problems and you know how sensitive council is about that. oh well. can't wait to see what they come up with and whether it means real change.
@336 duh. that's how it works. you get a council majority any way you can and then you put your peeps in key spots. show us your peeps council!
