Over on Patch, Camden has a very unscientific poll running about Caltrans's plan to widen Highway 1. At the time this is being posted, it's 75% in favor, 22% against, 2% undecided.

Is that the poll that says it isn't scientific?
Verrrrrrrrry unscientific.
"No. Shouldn't we be considering non-car alternatives?" is a false choice. The NIMBYs eliminate any chance for alternative transit options when they obstruct any attempt at denser housing developments. They should all have their environmental merit badges revoked.
Funny how the NIMBYs whine about the Patch poll being unscientific, but have no problem throwing out BS like "The majority of Pacificans do not want this highway widening" based upon absolutely nothing at all.
Hahaha. Now the NIMBYs are complaining that the poll has no credibility since people don't agree with them.
The poll posits widening the highway, which some people agree with, against telling commuters to get out their skateboards, which nobody is suggesting. I predict that the widening idea will win this poll.
Anyone read the Battalion Chief's letter to the editor yesterday? If for no other reason than the ones outlined in that letter, this widening must be done. Anything less borders on the criminal.
Wow, that's a pretty bold prediction given that it's already way over four to one in that direction, Dan.
Anons, even so highway widening is not a popularity contest, its a peak-hour commuter safety issue. "Stuck in traffic again" through Pacifica is a long-time problem which can be and should be corrected. The Chamber of Commerce is right on this issue, while city council seems to be hiding as usual (no surprise).
As for city character, the DEIR pictures (pfd pages 137-143) indicate the 1.3 mile highway widening is a city character improvement.
Dan, welcome! The Pacifica Patch poll "Should highway 1 in Pacifica be widened to relieve traffic?" Questions are" 1. "yes! I'm sick of traffic in the mornings and evenings. 2. I'm just not sure. 3. No. Shouldn't we be considering alternatives that don't require widening the highway?" Current vote for #1 is 79%.
Looks like the "Let's say NO to any development and fund our city via online polls" crowd has rescaled their focus from national dog park and vacation polls to local Pacifica Patch.
All 1 person has to do to change the poll numbers is keep voting. The poll is not only "unscientific", its invalid. I suspect 1 of the NIMBYS had nothing else to do today, so they skewed the vote. Winning.....
That's the problem with unscientific polls. Anybody on any side/both sides of the issue can skew the vote so easily when it's an on-line thing. Safe to say the only thing this pll ever meant was that Cameron knows how to get Patch on the radar.
