Therese Dyer on San Mateo County Grand Jury

Hello everyone,

I've just come away from giving my welcoming speech to the new 2011-2012 San Mateo County Grand Jury at Government Center in Redwood City  and I am pleased to announce that one of the finalist names drawn this afternoon was that of Pacifican Ms. Therese Dyer. So at this point Therese is probably just ariving back in town and ready to celebrate.

If you see her, congratulate her. She is about to enter a most rewarding and intriguing year in her life. But knowing Therese as we do, I'm sure that all of you are aware that Ms. Dyer is certainly up to the challenge of looking into things to see if there's any wrongdoing that needs to be brought to light and corrected.

Once again, congratulations to Therese!

We also have another Pacifican, Mr. Camillus Chan who, although not selected today as a Grand Juror in the first group, will be a Grand Juror "in waiting", as an alternate. And knowing how the Grand Jury has a tendency to promote their alternates to Grand Juror status rather quickly, when folks find out just how demanding this job really can be, it will probably be very shortly when Camillus Chan will also be a full fledged Grand Juror, as Therese is now.

So out of the 20 cities in San Mateo County, Pacifica has 1 GJ and 1 alternate on the 2011-2012 Grand Jury.

Funny when I was oriented as a grand juror, I was told to keep a low profile publicly and politically. Oh, I forgot, the cat was out of the bag with Barbie announcing everything everywhere.

Grand jurors are not supposed to announce that they're grand jurors. And their work is supposed to be kept quiet. This doesn't bode well.

This is no biggie for anyone other than the resident Barbara haters. The grand juror names frequently appear in the local newspapers. So much for anonymity. It's the work that is supposed to be kept confidential.

Wouldn't it be fun if Ms. Dyer was able to point the GJ towards some of Pacifica's odd little habits? Sanchez Art Center? Commissions and committee appointments and actions. City council absences? I think she's been waiting for just this opportunity.

How about disappearing bankruptcy debts from garbage companies? Maybe our new grand juror would like to look into organized crime in Pacifica.

Right, grand jurors should keep their name quiet until after they have served their l year or longer term. And, as one Anonymous sometimes has said: very SNEAKY. We should never know who they are as they skulk around. Another Anonymous might say: COMMIE tactics. Eventually these low profile grand jurors should die in very old age telling no one they ever served on a citizen committee.

Funny thing, I don't remember Anonymous being a grand juror. Very SNEAKY.

I think Barbara gave us a "headline". Thanks Barbara!!! And, thanks Steve for posting this news prior to all the other local media and press. Reality is with Anonymous (849) and (856), these are the comments with a clue.

BTW: I talked with Therese this evening, she is delighted to picked for the County Grand Jury, and is looking forward to it to be interesting volunteer civic work.

There have been a bunch of grand jurors in Pacifica. even more than one when Barbara served. Can anyone name who the other was? It might take you a minute because that person did not splash their name everywhere. Nor did most of the others. Thanks to all the Pacificans who have served.

Anon 8:56 I know it is shocking but Ms. Dyer won't get to directly investigate Pacifica. Can you say bias?

The process for the civil grand jury is a hoot when you look at it. Especially since it can not indict on it's finding. It's a good parking spot for our CSC's and our CRP's.

Pacifica needs to realize the GJ doesn't give a rats ass about Pacifica. There have been plenty of valid concerns brought before them and they all drifted away. Several while Barbara was on the GJ. So don't get all a-twitter with thoughts of Judge Roy Bean coming to town and conducting hanging parties every Sunday.

I know a few people who have been grand jurors. They all made a point of not talking about being on the grand jury, even after their terms ended.

"...that person did not splash their name everywhere."

Anon (618), it may take you a minute to figure-out media did not used to be as immediate as it is now. And, for those who do not know, Barbara Arietta is President of the entire San Mateo County Grand Jury Association in California, so the announcement both "bodes well" and is solid.

Grand Jury appointments are non-partisan, but for those political "haters" counting, Barbara was elected President through the votes of both Republicans and Democrats.

Anon (807), guess the few people you know who have been grand jurors must have told you (or others did) because you know it.

I know several people who have been past grand jurors. They generally don't talk about linked CASE SPECIFICS, that's all. (Also see the Anon 6/2, 8:49pm comment).

We all know being appointed a grand juror is a civic honor; about that person, assumed is having a higher intellect, and ability to do research and reason.

Has Birney been appointed Theresa's co-grand juror?

"Anon (807), guess the few people you know who have been grand jurors must have told you (or others did) because you know it." Duh. That's obvious. It should also be obvious that what we're talking about is making grandiose public announcements about being on the grand jury. There's good reason this is discouraged. It protects grand jurors from being pressured about investigations, as is already being done here.

Anonymous (1022), oh come-on, if you're serious, you're lost. We live in an instant communication world.

Again, thanks for the timely announcement Barbara. Theresa was delighted and amused with the Fix Pacifica breaking news "scoop".

How much longer are will you be STUCK Anon (1022)? And, based on your last statement ".. It protects grand jurors from being pressured about investigations, as is already being done here", you really may need to work on that paranoia.

Forget it Kathy. This stuff isn't about the new Grand Jurors. It's about Barbara and it's absolutley Pavlovian. They see her name and froth. Always worth a giggle or maybe two.
