At the beginning of each year, the local Democrat's club invites the newly elected Mayor to start off the new year by giving members of the public, not just Democrats, an update on what the city has done, what it is currently doing and what plans are in the hopper for future action. All citizens are encouraged to bring their questions for the new Mayor. This event has historically proven to be a lively affair, if not also a highly informative one, at the same time.
Nihart, who was formally installed in December 2010, will begin her first turn as Mayor of Pacifica. The five members of the City Council are elected at large to four-year terms. The Mayor is selected from among the members of the council by majority vote. The Mayor of Pacifica serves a one-year term, beginning in November of each year. Nihart was previously elected to her first term on the Pacifica City Council in November 2008. Her current term expires in November 2012.
Mayor Nihart is looking for ways to make the economy of Pacifica sustainable, and the current structural deficit eliminated. She understands the need for the development of Pacifica's business community. Knowing that Pacifica has many challenges on many different levels, Nihart is excited about the various active committees and new groups in town, who are working together to make Pacifica a better place.
There are many issues currently facing the City of Pacifica including, but not limited to: the repair of aging infrastruture, coastal erosion, the development of the Palmetto business district, the fate of the quarry, the seawall and the Sharp Park Golf Course, along with the marketing of the city, the sustainability of Pacifica's small businesses, the balancing of the city's budget in conjunction with the elimination of the current $2.8 million/yr structural deficit, and more, but, most importantly, it's the economy of the city overall...and the elimination of the structural deficit.
All Pacifica Democrats meetings are open to the public. It is not necessary to be a member of the club, nor even a Democrat to attend. A full breakfast is offered for $12, continental breakfast for $6 and coffee for $3. No purchase is necessary. Doors open at 9am. Seating is between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. For further infomation, or to RSVP, please contact Pacifica Democrat's President, Barbara Arietta at 415-246-0775 or email her at barietta@hotmail.com .

Gee, could we get Suzie Orman instead? She has a better chance than these clowns (as in zero chance) of fixing Pacifica's problems. Can we?
Are you saying that some other clowns would have a better chance of fixing Pacifica's problems? Who are they?
Or are you saying that nobody has a better chance of fixing Pacifica's problems?
Pacifica has a new planning director=nothing in fix pacifica.
Pacifica has a city councilman out for medical reasons.
I think I can catch up on the news better reading last months Tribune.
Fix Pacifica missed the boat again
Go away, Simons.
I had hoped that when you shut down your own blog, it meant you were going to try to get your own life in order.
A certain Texas rodeo clown has been slamming Jim V. for weeks about his absence at council meetings, and some of you local clowns have gone along for the ride. Don't you all owe him a sincere apology?
7:42 am: Gosh, I guess there could be other clowns out there who might be able to fix Pacifica-let's be optimistic- but until they roll up in their little clown car I'd prefer Suzie Orman over any of our local elected clowns. The old 4, anyhow.
Suzie Orman is to financial advisors what Chef Boyardee is to the culinary arts.
If anyone knows the actual medical diagnosis for Council Member Vreeland, please advise so that "speculation by clown" ends. May he recover soon, godspeed!
And, that doesn't mean some of us are not disappointed in the failure of prior 8 year city council to deliver this city balance economic development solutions when opportunities have been available.
And the eight years failed before the eight years failed, too.
1:32 pm--- A little Boyardee may be just what Pacifica needs. We've had the fancy gourmet nonsense long enough. Send in Chef Suzie now.
Why do you need to know "the actual medical diagnosis" Ms Meeh, is your "troofer mindset" showing?
If anyone went to the "State-of-the-City" address today, please let us know what Mayor Nihart said. Whatever she said would be important. Time conflict on my part, otherwise I would have been there.
Not important whosoever, Anon 1:26pm comments. After looking up the word "toofer", available only on urban-type dictionaries, apparently its the same as a "truther" (right-wing conspiracist). Definitely that's not me Anon, you must be talking to yourself again.
About council member Vreeland. Rumors about his illness are out there. It would be preferred to hear the truth, and to be empathetic to whatever that medical diagnosis is.
Public officials shouldn't conceal serious illnesses, if that's what this is. The man was just re-elected to a four-year term after all.
And of course, Pacifica has no serious issues facing it, it's all good ,right?
"The eight years fails before the, eight years. The eight years fails before the, eight years. The eight years fails before the, eight years.
Now hear the word of the lard!"
