It is unclear that all Linda Mar and Park Pacifica residents have been warned, either by letter or a Tribune ad. Linda Mar parking will have to be moved to side streets. Traffic will increase on Crespi and Fassler as both area schools reopen. Shoppers entering Linda Mar Shopping Center will be delayed.

Homeowners on Linda Mar probably will not be able to repair their sewer laterals as repaving goes on. If a homeowner has to sell, what arrangements can be made to repair their sewer? A Mar. 24 city letter to homeowners is contradictory and in the same letter says you can and cannot repair your laterals after the paving is complete. Renters apparently did not receive the letter, so their loss of parking and even access to their driveway will be a surprise.
Were community organizations, like the school districts, Chamber of Commerce, shopping center manager and realtors notified of this project and its unavoidable impacts?
Finally, if traffic backs up as this major arterial is effectively closed, are plans in place to direct traffic?"

As far as alerting people, The Tribune has only distributes only about 3000 papers. The City needs to acknowledge this website as reaching more citizens than any other media and start working with Kathy and Steve to post city announcements.
I know some in the city prefer to use the Nextdoor website where opposing views are not allowed but council needs to change there ways if they want voters to believe they really care about transparency.
Maybe we're lucky they could only find enough money to pave 1/3rd of the boulevard? High Five! I've finally got the Pacifica mindset.
1057 Maybe they and we should lose the politics and the readership claims just long enough to communicate somewhat important information to as many people as possible using every means available. Fix and Riptide do a pretty good job of that and seem to be on the city hall news feed. Maybe the city could also use the cops mobile bulletin board starting now to prepare folks. I think we'll all survive.

Riptide has maybe 10-20 people using it regularly. Fix has 300+ per day. Just look at the amount of comments on each per day to judge the amount of viewers. Riptide can sometimes go days without any posts. Fix has 10+ posts a day.
The city should take note and use Fix to reach the most citizens. Right now they're afraid of this site because citizens say what they think. Council needs to grow a pair.

105 Both together are a drop in the pan in a town this size, although they do generate some word of mouth. The city needs to use the phone system for these messages. The system is already there and in most households. Sounds more like you're seeking legitimacy or credibility for the blog through a city linkage. A shared message 'cause we're all on the same page? The Voice of Pacifica? One dead blog and one giddy city council.
Council with a pair is a scary thought.
Yeah, Riptide may have fewer users, but they have that palindrome guy. Of course we have Ms. Meeh's often devilishly funny graphics.

Real politicans are not on the Pacifica city council.
131 Karen Ervin just posted on Riptide a couple of weeks ago. Mike ONeill has posted here in the past and I've seen Len & Mary Ann on blogs before. I know for a fact ALL council read the blogs especially this one and some even post here anonymously.
105, I think your subjective head count is low, at Fix and Riptide.
Fix page views "last month" were 22,980, which looks pretty typical but continues to increase for Fix. July had 31 days, hence daily page view traffic was 741.29. If the system counts 1 month as 30 days (which is more likely), daily page view traffic was 766.00. So, I'm willing to discount the Fix traffic average to, say 600 (or even as low as 500). Not everyone opens articles to view or make comments. That is true at Fix, and also true at Riptide.
Other local information sources are also appreciated: The City, Pacifica Index, the Tribune, Patch.

Mary Ann posted on Patch a couple times and people called her out and she vanished.

Those user numbers are pretty high Kathy. This site easily has ten times the traffic as all the other sites combined. Council should be paying more attention here, posting under their real names and responding to their constituents. I'm sure if anyone says anything really out there you or Steve will filter it.

There are fewer posts on Riptide because you can't post there completely anonymously. You have to at least identify yourself to the blogmaster. Lots of the posts on Riptide are made by people using their real names. This is in contrast to Fix Pacifica, where everybody can post completely anonymously and most people do. It's impossible to know if the same few people are posting most of the comments. Another consequence of the anonymity is that you see a lot of personal attacks, name calling, and other trash talking here that you don't see on Riptide. That generates higher traffic as well as a higher noise to signal ratio. It's quantity over quality.

The biggest difference between the 2 blogs is that John over on Riptide actively edits and filters comments. Not too popular a practice.
I don't really see many personal attacks here. Telling Todd to "go file another bogus appeal" doesn't really count since Todd did do that. But of course the NIMBY's hate this site because they get called out on their BS.
I would say hearing what people really think is better "quality". Maybe that's why Fix is so much more popular?

I am going to have to disagree with you about name calling. Just a couple of days a go an Anonymous poster called Len Stone a quitter for choosing not to run again. I doubt that person would have dared to say that if he/she had to post under their own name. Anonymity can make people cruel and thoughtless.
Tom, is one person calling Len a quitter really that mean spirited? It was obvious that Len is not really quitting so is it really cruel? If a politicians can't take a little guff, well. You yourself said you didn't like Len and were glad he didn't run. Is that mean? No, it's how you feel.
For what it's worth I've seen much worse said on the Patch and Riptide.

It can be much more devastating when you know the person who says something cruel.
No fan of Stone, but calling the guy a quitter because he chose not to run for re-election is pretty low. Particularly when the comment probably comes from someone who never even held the job. Criticism from a non-starter. Stone cared enough to try and he waived all compensation. That deserves respect.

Riptide allows pseudonyms (screen names) as long as the commenter’s true identity is known to editor and publisher John Maybury, who moderates the blog. Riptide does not allow anonymous comments of the type routinely found on Fix Pacifica.
Wrong again 123. John only knows the email address not necessarily the persons real name. You can put any name you want. It's not like he checks. There are a half dozen people posting anonymously there.
Fixpacifica is where I come to watch discussions on all subjects become train wrecks, horrible inhumane train wrecks.

Todd 1000, as you know, the NIMBY train wreck slowly began 30 years ago. Some of you took turns driving the train. Now we report on various disruptions and damage caused by segments of that orchestrated train wreck. At the same time, we hope that future city councils will attempt to clean-up, mitigate and rescue what's left of this city-- our city.
Where did our road money go? The good news is 1/3 of Linda Mar Blvd is being paved. The bad news is that 2/3rds of Linda Mar Blvd is not being paved. Whereas, the repeated verbal announcement at city council was that Linda Mar Blvd is being paved (with further verbal detail understated or omitted).
