Philosopher's Way trail, dedicated Saturday (1/5/13) in San Francisco, meanders through McLaren Park, weaving onto vistas of the city and the Bay Area and into groves of redwoods and cypress. The 2.7-mile
trail loop holds expansive views of the region, including Mount Diablo, Mount Tamalpais, Angel Island and the Pacific Ocean - assuming it's a clear day.
.... McLaren, named after John McLaren, the longtime park superintendent who helped develop
Golden Gate Park, is surrounded by several distinct neighborhoods - Visitacion Valley, Portola, Sunnydale, Excelsior and Crocker-Amazon. It includes various tree groves and open space, as well as the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater.
.... If you go: The trailhead for the Philosopher's Way can be found at the parking lot southwest of the intersection of Mansell Street and Visitacion Avenue." Read article.
