The golf course isn't the only
historical site located within the
Sharp Park Recreational area. Tucked back at the old
rifle range and the current archery range at the east boundary of the park, once sat a WWII enemy
internment camp.
At one time, it housed over 2500 Italians, Germans, Japanese, Mexicans,
assorted South Americans, and a few Canadians. Based on the sheer
number of people housed there, parts of holes 5 and 6 probably
contained housing units and other support apparatus. Only by careful
excavation will we be able to learn more about this important piece of
American history right here in our backyard.
