PH1A anti-highwway 1 widening petitions were presented to city council 4/28/14 during citizen oral communications as a Pacifica survey, as described in their various citizen presentations. But, only 63.09% of petition signatures were from Pacifica. And compare Oakland (238) to Pacifica (834) signatures:  Oakland (238) represents 28.54% of Pacifica (834) signatures, almost 30%. The survey might have been a good publicity stunt, but the local survey value appears to be meaningless.

For me, this is making me question the credibility of the people opposing Hwy-1 widening.

If this is true, this is a real shame since I will use this incident to judge future anti-development opposition proposals.

One would hope that these sort of underhanded manipulations weren't employed in previous infrastructure and property development oppositions.

I can say any credibility the so called green lobby of Pacifica has now hangs by a very thin thread in my mind.

1207 Polly Anna, kid, you're going to be ok. This petition faux pas makes me wonder if the hippies really are gone? Can this major fuck-up be the handiwork of the same notorious bunch that held absolute control over this town for 30 years? Have the Masterminds and Mesmerizers lost it? Is this the first real sign of change? Somebody tell Council it's safe to come out of their foxholes.

So is M.C. Hammer

The Pacifica ones are made up too, since 99% of Pacificans support widening. I saw a flyer that said so.

446 Yowsa! To use a phrase this Council likes...thanks for thinking outside the box.

Most of the people on the Project Development Team for the widening live outside Pacifica (Van OCampo lives in SSF) so who cares where the signators live... but ye all.

Besides funny claims by Hutch about who and how many support the widening the petition shows a growing number of people are understanding what such a project means, and do not like it.

Word is finally spreading.

Shouldn't you be over on Riptide spreading non-truths. Or at the Coastal Commission appealing projects.

Todd 923, your PH1A "Gang of No" petition gained 834 Pacifica resident signatures (including teenagers) over two months, population 40,200 = 2%. How much is that movement to stop highway modernization growing?

Van Ocampo (our City Engineer) works in Pacifica for the benefit of Pacificans. The 1.3 mile highway 1 traffic bottleneck through Pacifica is celebrating its 20th birthday. Research to fix this known road congestion is completed, funding is now. Late, previously reviewed alternatives from your PH1A organization are hot air NIMBY vapor, with no funding.

And following your own reasoning "who cares where the signatures live", people who dive through Pacifica will also appreciate a better, safer road.

The only signatures and votes that matter are those of the California Coastal Commission.

"DON'T CONCRETE OUR COAST."
To the Pacifica City Council: The Caltrans plan to widen Highway 1 is not good for Pacifica. I will cause more problems that it will solve.

That's the heading for the petition. 99.9% of the population of Pacifica doesn't follow what's really going on here. They're too busy with life. That heading is misleading, factually wrong, and leading. I can't understand why they couldn't get 10,000 signatures. Hell, no one wants to concrete our coast!
Hysterical hysteria hijinks.

Yeah, Pea, all they needed was an ambulance to put it over the top.
