  1. I stand corrected. The chamber actually does something useful!

  2. This is the best group of participating restaurants in the past few years. Don't know if there are more or less than usual but the selection is great. Worth more than the price of the ticket for that reason alone!

  3. I bet none of the hippies show up. Cause you have to buy a ticket, to get in!

  4. That's a waste of words. Why even go there.

  7. Wow this site is getting as much action as Riptide lately. Something happen? Where's Kathy? What's with the tame articles?

  8. Kathy is pissed at me and boycotting the blog.

  9. Buy her some flowers

    Put on some Lou Rawls

    Dim the lights

    Have a nice dinner ready

Not cheap take out. But 5 stars

    Candles and light a fire

  10. I think Hutch stated the issue of "tame articles" rather well, Steve. And let's further inform your comment.

Your "new rules" to limit the content, context and style of articles I post was clearly stated in the With highway 1 access" article discussion. And when you cut-off that article discussion, one comment from me, intended for reply, remained outstanding. That comment I then sent to you in the form of email. One hour later you removed my moderation and article posting privileges. Here is that comment:

Steve, I'm on "article posting strike" until you lift the restrictive "new rules" embargo, and if never so be it. The directive I refer to includes, "don't add comments, don't add captions, don't add highlights", 5/28, 1:36 PM, with 5/28, 2:23 PM concession to add pictures, but "just not on LTEs". And your explanation for such containment is based upon your experience and style, rather than mine-- rather than compliance issues?

Compare your articles posting style, FMV (which I assume you view as "perfect"). Your article postings include a link (always), maybe a picture, maybe no comment, little else.

By contrast, my articles tend to be more complex. There is immediate source recognition, a link, text quotation marks (always). I highlight for clarity, meaning, and detail focus. Additionally there may be a comment or a summary. Frequently there are references or related information, pictures, captions. The framing generally carries a point of view, sometimes satire. But is there a compliance issue?

If there is no compliance issue, I'm not planning to fix what I consider "isn't broken": namely, me. From a creative viewpoint, your proposal is like asking Todd Bray to reject color, paint in black and white, and add no lettering to his information sings and posters. Meantime, hope your political strategist friend has an alternative plan to deliver articles of interest. I'll watch with amazement.

  11. Kathy come back.

  12. ^^^ my comment 9:48 AM, "sing".

Last paragraph should be, Todd's "signs and posters." His singing here sounds more like "gangster rap to me.

  13. Kathy, here's what I sent you in an email -

"People used to snipe at me for adding personal commentary or goofy pictures to their submissions, so I stopped. We should not be doing that with Letters to the Editor."

I was only referring to LTEs.

We at least owe it to people not to distort, filter or color their letters or submissions. First, it's unfair. Second, if we do that, then we become an echo chamber where only one viewpoint is expressed.

If anyone doesn't like someone else's opinion, that's what the comments section is for.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Steve, your containment and restriction of my article postings was stated in a much broader context. Go back and read what you said beginning with "damn it".

Opinion anywhere, including Pacifica, should be handled the same as any news articles. That is now the Mercury News copyright policy in Pacifica, as stated by their copyright disclosure. I hold the same view, and criticism of "alternative views" is a given. No letter to the editor, I've ever posted has ever been distorted in text. And there is no reason in framing an article, that I should aid in assisting "alternative view" propaganda. Been there, the revised history legend in this city has created a mental, social and economic swampland. We need to undue that. Remember "fix Pacifica"?

  15. There was nothing wrong with the light and funny comments Kathy would add to L'sTE. In fact it's what keeps people interested. This forum IS called Fix Pacifica so there's nothing wrong with labeling, highlighting, illustrating that point here. Attempts at vanillafying this blog have already resulted in marked decline in use. I for one won't bother with it if the past few days articles continue. It looks like Tribune LTE.

So Kathy, Steve says he wants you here. Please come back! Steve can you back off a little on Kathy. Kathy can you talk to Steve and work something out?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Everyone...Let's rein it in back to Taste of Pacifica..........Come by Nick's at Noon. The food selection is outstanding..

    ReplyDelete
  17. Kathy, please come back!!

I can easily live with commentary & pictures on letters as long as only snippets of letters are included. From what I can tell, that's what copyright and fair use laws allow.

I truly don't know where Kathy got the idea that I was telling her she couldn't comment or add pictures to anything at all. I'm not holding her to different standards than I hold.

Kathy and I both get feedback that we shouldn't allow, to paraphrase, "hippies who have destroyed the city" a voice on the blog. There's no way I'll go for that. Whenever it looks like that's beginning to happen, which was the case, I'll step in.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sounds like relationship problems. What was that question old Ann Landers used to tell people to ask themselves--are you better off with or without that other person?

Kathy brings a lot to the blog. She ain't easy, but imho she's worth it. That's not at all an endorsement of her stand on this copyright thing, or a few other things. I think she did cross the line with Bray and also with that distorted header she put on Underhill's LTE. She sometimes has a heavy hand. So what? Sinai gave her some tough love. Erase that line you drew in the sand, Kathy. Kiss and make up, please.

The thought of one of the local Masters of the Universe trying to replace would be like deep anesthesia. Don't put us under!
Kathy, come back, come back, Kathy!

  19. Perhaps just perhaps this could be a stunt. Create drama to get more people watching and posting.

    Leave it to Sinai!

  20. Party of 3 for Taste of Pacifica! Can't wait to see what Puerto 27, Surf Spot and Columbo's present.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kathy, should hold out for top dollar.

Or maybe go over to Riptide and start a new blog. Rip Pacifica.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fix Pacifica makes $0 per month.

Citizen Maybury over on Riptide may make around $10 per month.

Compared to Fix, Riptide is loaded with dough.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That is nothing to write home about.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am looking forward to getting a taste of everything tomorrow.Should be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Flo of Progressive Insurance" give up your "get out of jail free card" and come back! Steve Sinai, 1:15 PM, and others. (Okay that's a parody, I'm just having fun).

Steve, you may return my posting, moderation link if you choose. However, the style, choice of articles, picture graphics, captions, titles and framing are all up to me. (Following known copyright guidelines is a given).

Yes, we agree most voices may be heard, although the trend on this blog is fix Pacifica, so if you're a "hippie" get used to it. Being a big fan of order and sanity, I appreciate you stepping in when dialog spins out of control.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't miss Kathy's off topic postings. She spent too much time riling up tea baggers and going on and on and on about whether someone was anonymous. Let's let that broken record sit for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well nuts, I'm back. Steve sent the link last night about one minute after my somewhat ambivalent agreement to return to editing.

"Off topic" Anonymous 9:18 AM, you really think your "tea bagger" slur is more important than factually responding to Tea Party mythology, comments also allowed on this blog? After all you have a license for making such nonsense comments under anonymous cover. Well,"on topic" you might want to "get stuffed". As the flyer article says, "Taste of Pacifica" Noon to 3 PM, today, $30 at the door. Have a good day!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks Kathy,

I lost $10 in the pool.

I didn't think you would be back till Monday am.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "I lost $10 in the pool." Anonymous 10:36 AM.

Uh-oh! Get your money back, who knows, I may not post articles until Monday AM. We'll see, "keep hope alive".

  30. People who pretend that someone who spends 24x7 on this blog with OCD intensity could leave cold turkey are engaging in wishful thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 444 That sounded vaguely autobiographical. TMI.

  32. fantastic event. perfect weather, great food, good company. Thanks to Chris Porter for all her hard work. Count looks like over 250 attendees. kudos to nicks once again for the venue and to nicks staff for all their help.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, Jim a great event.
I would guess more then 250 people.
Thanks to everyone for their hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Any leftovers?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your URI is invalid.

Did the chamber provide any special and illegal access to our local politicians in return for their donation this time?

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Your URI is invalid."

Well, since the event is over...

    ReplyDelete
  37. These new chamber bozo's think they are going to reshape Pacifica politics. Take a look around the hippies still run the town.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What rock do you live under anon 652? Hippies off council check. Hippies leaving planning commish check. Major projects moving forward check check.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What major projects moving forward?

    ReplyDelete
  40. No anonymoi the Chamber bozos did nothing more than give a good time to many people in town and spotlight our restaurants with great food, flowers and entertainment...all local. If for that reason you feel you again have the anonymoi right to call us bozos after about four months of hard work by all of us, well.......

    ReplyDelete
  41. Zero major projects moving forward because there is no interest from anyone who could put a dime in the city treasury. 2013 and still no interest. Maybe because there's so little left to develop without major battles cutting into the profits.

It might seem like the hippies have left the room, but it only seems that way. The leaders are just getting old. They need to develop some new cross-over candidates that will appeal to that big Pacifica voting block of hippie-lite Yippies. Those are hippies with a dash of yuppie. Got a couple on council right now. Hybrids. Guess that's evolution.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Only a bozo or perhaps someone who wasn't even there would have failed to enjoy the Taste of Pacifica. You missed a good time and great food. Well done!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I will believe you when:

All the promises your company made are filled.

    New trucks
    No increases in garbage charges
    No differences a seemless merger

Oh wait none of these happened.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congrats Chamber on your very important paper business directory!!!!

I can't wait for the 2013 buggy whip catalog!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm hardly in love with Recology, but I don't remember a promise not to increase rates. In fact, the schedule of rate increases seems to have been spelled out several years in advance.

If you're unhappy with the garbage contract, blame previous councils who let the problems with Coastside fester to the point that when we needed a replacement, the city was over a barrel and didn't have much negotiating power.

    ReplyDelete
  46. When is the garbage contract up again? Hopefully, next time we have a council that understands we need to put it out to bid, as opposed to some back room deal with Recology.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh you mean the councils that gave Coastside a 20 year contract? Those were the days!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Out to bid? Don't get your hopes up. There aren't that many players in the garbage biz.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hey, doncha remember Nihart saying they were real worried about just who would pick up the garbage if they couldn't strike a deal with Recology? Coastside was such a financial mess. We came that close to seeing council get their hands dirty. Sure we did. I actually like Recology and I think any of them are going to charge about the same unless they do a teaser rate and then play catch up. Not worth it because these guys are doing a good job.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If they all charge the same, why are rates so much higher than other communities?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Coastside was a mess because the city let them be a mess.

Plus them and the illegal dumping of green waste and god only knows what else in Picardo Ranch.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Glad to know anytime I post anything whatsoever the same people bring it back to the garbage rates. Anonymoi yesterday at 5:11pm, none of those promises were made.Anonymoi at 8:00pm, Coastside never had a 20 year contract and Anonymoi at 8:59pm the dumping at Picardo Ranch of only greeenwaste was approved by then City Mgr David Carmany. I know you don't care about the truth all of you anonymoi so for what it's worth ....

    ReplyDelete
  53. I like Recology. Sure, why not put it out for bid, but if the services are really compared apples to apples I don't think we'd save much, if anything.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Why would they offer their best price if they know they don't have to compete with anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hey Chris, being one of the anonymi has its upside. Have a double identity...not all of your posts are officialish. Free to be you!

    ReplyDelete
  56. oh yeah like competition in the garbage trade is fierce

    ReplyDelete
  57. BTW just for the record did any of the hippies, nobees, and or nimby's show up?

Probably not, cause you had to pay to get in!

    ReplyDelete
